In an interview between Tetsuya Nomura and Gamesbeat, Gamesbeat was able to have the chance to talk to Nomura at E3 and discuss the possibility of a Star Wars world in Kingdom Hearts III. At first, they were told they were not allowed to talk about the matter, but eventually Nomura did mention some things about the subject.
[About Star Wars]
Of course, Disney Interactive and Square Enix [are the] publisher. They’re combining their forces to bring Kingdom Hearts. So, the other associated companies under Disney [are] not something that is as simple as us consulting with Disney Interactive. So, unfortunately, the lineup is kind of considered as different.
The licensing isn't exactly the easiest, according to Nomura. What he means is that both Disney Interactive and Square Enix both have to contact their mother company Disney and Lucasfilm for permission to use any of the characters and locations. It isn't as simple as just requesting Disney for their first party licenses. It was also said that it could also be more expensive requesting these licenses as well. Even so, Disney Interactive may not even have the rights to use them.
Since the big deal between Disney and Lucasfilm back in 2012, many fans of the Kingdom Hearts franchise have been debating about seeing the Star Wars series in Kingdom Hearts III. Do you believe Star Wars would make a great addition to the Kingdom Hearts series? Let us know in the comments below!
