How much does the anime miss out?

The anime follows the manga for the first 10 or so volumes. It splits off partly at there. Volumes 11-14 are kind of represented in the anime, although the manga has a lot more details and events that weren't in the anime. The anime ends off around that point, while the manga goes on until Volume 25. It's kind of tough to give exact details without spoiling anything, but the manga has a lot more to it. The anime's still enjoyable, although I personally prefer the manga.

Also, I was just looking at plot summaries for the volumes to come up with that, so it might not be 100% accurate. Regardless, the anime is pretty different after it finishes the content from Volume 10, and it completely splits off a while later.

What happened

Basically Volkswagen use low CO2 emissions as a key selling point for their cars (do your bit for the planet etc etc). However it turns out there is a programme installed in the car to detect when the Car is due for a check-up. It then alters the engine setting to trick the engineers into thinking the engine produces low CO2 emissions when infact the emissions are actually abnormally high.

So aka it's fraud.
