I meant more the sort of overhead pixelated style of characters and world, as well as the style of story usually used for the characters.

I don't find them scary either, but I love the adventure game format though. The first PSP version of Corpse Party really pulls off that style well while still being rather disturbing. It's probably the best horror / adventure game out there outside of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, and it really avoids the "edgy" tropes a lot of those pixel-artwork games tend to use.

That's something I admire about Corpse Party. Unlike a lot of those first-person indie horror games where you're a featureless blob protagonist plopped into a random spooky maze, there's a coherency to what's going on. You're not arbitrarily running around collecting keys or whatever to progress -- there's a good reason you're doing what you're doing. There's more to the game than "run around, get scared." It's not scary because it's trying to scare you. It's scary because what's happening is scary. Even Silent Hill, while being truly scary, is likely to throw random puzzles in your way because hey, that's what games do. Plus, the horror isn't forced. There's a restraint to its scares because it knows it's scary and allows the horror to speak for itself, unlike that god-awful Tortured Souls OAV and its over-the-top violence. It doesn't need to prove it's scary, so it doesn't throw its weight around with gratuitous violence or endless jump scares.

Then again, PSP Corpse Party might be the exception than the rule. The rest of the Corpse Party installments aren't up to snuff imo. Still, I like to believe it's because the games themselves weren't scary, and not because of its format. (Well, Book of Shadows is a traditional visual novel instead of a game, which I think takes away a lot of what made its prequel memorable).

I don't find JRPG style horror games to be scary.

ohhh! this is a good one. i agree. i understand the concept of their horror factor but i also agree its not strong enough. maybe scary on a psychological mind game level but nothing that makes me look over my shoulder while playing them. i think the problem may lie in the fact that there's not enough immersion. we are just being trust into another persons story.

Weirdly, it's not being thrust into someone else's story that breaks my immersion. I'm never able to project myself onto characters, featureless or no, because I know it's fiction and I probably won't belong in whatever setting is there to begin with. Most first-person games try to accomplish that, but I always go "Nice try, I'm not in some creepy maze, now what person am I controlling here?" It's why a lot of horror media in general tend to have poor stories: they don't care about it. They know they can depend on audience immersion and a bunch of boo scaries, so it feels like they don't bother to try.

I know you don't need to have a story-based game to be scary, but with all the first-person nameless featureless whythecrapamIinthisstupidcreepymazegettingchasedbyXmonster games out there, I just have this suspicion it's because they're not even bothering to try with a coherent story. I can get the crap scared out of me in Silent Hill 2 by playing as James Sunderland, not myself. A first-person horror game isn't anymore likely to scare me than a JRPG format. What counts is if the game bothers to try.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is an underrated zelda game and people should give it more love.

Seriously. That game was amazing. One of my favourite games of all time and second favourite Zelda game behind Majora's Mask. But don't worry they'll show appreciation for Skyward Sword when the new Zelda game comes out and they'll hate on that.

Final Fantasy 13 is kinda boring, and Lightning is pretty...well...for lack of a better phrase, bitchy.Compared to other games, FF13 just dropped the ball, and 13-2 did NOT help things in any way.

I hate children. 3-11 year olds mostly.

There are some movies that are perfect stand alone and really do not need a sequal or threequal or anything of that.

It should be Ilegal to cut grass before 11am, or do yard work that's loud for that matter.

People who classify Japanese games as anime bother me a lot. Anime is a type of animation that you watch. Video games have interaction, and you play them. There's a major difference. Might as well call Western games cartoons if Japanese games are going to be called anime.

Tequila ou nada.

On another note I can't help but feel disappointed in someone whenever I see them cave in and try and "lighten" their opinion to appease the other person. Example -- Suppose the following conversation took place:

Draco: Man Pocahontas was better than Mulan in every way

Shana: No way, dude, Mulan is better, don't be stupid

Draco: OK OK, so maybe Mulan was better in a lot of ways but Pocahontas was still better.

No, Draco! You said Pocahontas was better in every way so stick to it! Don't cave in to appease this bitch wonderful lady. Honestly people should think what they think and stick to it until they experience otherwise.

I give the original Kingdom Hearts 10/10. It might not be a perfect game but it is the game I enjoyed the most (second only to possibly Chrono Trigger) and if all of GameFAQs or IGN or whoever came down on me and brought a barrage of arguments for why it's a horrible game I would not give one single monkey titty. Oh the camera (KH1 is apparently notorious for its bad camera) hid enemies from you and you died cause you couldn't see them? Too bad for you, you can penalise the game for that but it didn't happen to me so I won't lower my score because of something I never experienced. This applies for any form of media.

I'm not saying remain blind to the truth but if you don't believe that so and so was poorly written or whatever other generic complaint one can think of then you don't. Maybe one day you'll find that it is but until then be happy that you're supposedly enjoying this "poorly written" thing and don't be scared someone is going to judge you for it and then concede to an opinion you don't agree with.

When people talk about babies n' shit, I don't say anything, out of respect, but mentally I'm like:

Years ago, when I was learning about all the facts including the horrific shit...literally.... that happens to a lady's body

When people try and convince me to do that when I'm older instead of respecting my choice...probably because they're brainwashed-by-society and total sheep that somehow thinks it's mandatory for a woman

When they continue to pester

When they proceed to attempt to guilt trip me or get angry at me for my own goddamn life choice

May's new design in AlphaSapphire/OmegaRuby is way better than her original design. I mean just look at her:

Seriously adorable. My favorite trainer design in the series.

While still on the topic of Pokemon, Hoenn's legendary Pokemon were by far the coolest of any region. They do have good competition from the following gens (not so much the previous two, mainly just Mew), but imo Hoenn's just had the best designs.

Sunny weather isn't the best. I much prefer a lightly overcast day with an nice breeze. Full on sun is just too bright. I actually think it just looks prettier outside when the sun is partially blocked. It's hard to explain, but the colors of the environment just look better to me that way.

Cell phones are starting to annoy me. I thought I was addicted to technology, but some of my friends just never take a step away from their phones. They're always texting (even during class) and checking crap like Instagram and SnapChat (neither of which I've ever felt compelled to use). Maybe it's just my inner introvert that's talking, but that's just too much constant social interaction. Especially annoying is when they use their phones while also holding a conversation with me or someone else. Thankfully they don't use them instead of face to face interaction, so I guess it's not as bad as it could be.

I seriously hate it when I see people arguing about being attracted to game/anime characters when the argument against it is "they're just pixels/ they're not real." That argument might have some basis, if not for the fact that people have literally been attracted to drawn/painted/whatever people for far longer than video games and anime existed. Ever notice the many, many paintings of naked women that are hundreds of years old? Why exactly do you think that is? I visited the Prado in Spain this last summer, and I heard an interesting fact: the Spanish king (don't remember which one, unfortunately) use to have a private room in his palace, which women were not allowed to enter, and it was filled with paintings of women. Yeah, uh, that's not suggestive at all. There's really nothing wrong with being attracted to "fake" people (hey, some people have crushes on book characters who, most of the time, don't even have a concrete physical appearance), nor is there anything wrong with not being attracted to them. But certainly don't pretend that you are some how on a higher road because you don't find characters attractive.

The phrase "illegitimate child" should be completely erased from our vocabulary.  It's a demeaning term for something the child has no control over.

I'm definitely with you on the argument regarding May's design. The new one's a lot cooler. I do prefer Brendan's old design, though. His new one's grown on me, but it still doesn't feel entirely right.

Brendan's friggin hair

Fifty Shades of Grey is an abomination that should not exist. Abusive relationships are NOT something that should be supported in any way, shape or form. Sugar-coat things like that, and gullible teens with their brains still in the process of growing will believe that those things are "okay", "acceptable", or even "encouraged" when they're nothing but filth.

Brendan's friggin hair

You could actually kinda see the brown hair under his hat back in R/S/E. It's easier to see now, though. ._.

It took me so long to learn he did not have white hair. So, so long...
