GameStop Ranked One Of America's Worst Companies To Work For

Recommended Posts

I kinda agree with the not so hot customer service and the pressurizing to pre order games. One time I went there to buy Kid Icarus Uprising and just happened upon a KH3D sign, so I asked about it, then when the employee was ringing me up she asked me like five times if I wanted to pre order KH3D, I said no simply because I was waiting for a bundle like the MoM to be announced, but she kept asking me(This was in April mind you)

Another time I asked an employee if he could check in the back for a copy of loz skyward sword so I could buy it for my cousin as a gift. He was like sure then he walked away and started helping other customers, he didn't even go to the back as I was waiting there for like 15~20 mins.

So in short yes I can totally agree with this.

Guys, uh, why are you bashing the workers? It's not their fault they work for GameStop. They HAVE to try to get your buisness.

Well, this has nothing to do with "bashing" the employees at GameStop. it's more of a conversation about how bad their service is towards their customers. Which is a true fact becasue they always harass people about pre-ordering/buying a new game, can have really bad attitude toward the customer (which i guess depends on the person working there), and how much money they give you for trading in a game. I'm not trying to say anything bad about the working since I know that's their job. But I'm just saying and pointing out how bad their service towards customers can be.

I don't have a problem with Gamestop. It's their job. I can kind of understand the annoyance of being asked about pre-orders, if they over-ask, but I've never been over-asked. Honestly, I'm over-asked about stupid shit at Suncoast, far more than I am at Gamestop, but I don't get mad at them. Now I will never agree with people getting mad about trade-in prices. The trade-in prices aren't that bad. For god's sake, there was a point where a PS3 Naruto game could be traded in for $30. We're talking about a Naruto game here. Besides, you have to understand that if Gamestop is to stay in business, they have to make a profit, too.

Well, I must have been lucky, then. I've only been to Gamestop a couple of times, but they treated me really well and helped me as much as they could. Sure, they worked hard to try to make me get a Power Up card (Or level up, can't remember) but once I explained I didn't live there they just looked for the games I asked for, gave the info i asked for, and even shared their opinion on the game.

Hell, the guy I asked to look for Days told me it was the best out of Re: Coded and I shouldn't just lose a game like that >_>

That Gamefly commericial was spot on about the trade-in's lol :) Anyway I only buy games I KNOW I'll enjoy (like 3D for ex.) from Gamestop, so for anything else there's Gamefly!

I have never once had a problem with my local Gamestop and the guys in there are pretty helpful but then again I tend to know what I want if I go in there so....

I have noticed a load of people complain about Gamestop but see I don't live in America so I can't really jump on the hate bandwagon especially when I like the local Gamestop here.

I'd be lying though if I said I agree with their policies. They can be ridiculously over-priced on a load of things and one bad member of staff can really piss you off. When you mentioned about trying to buy a ps3 slim and the guy pestered you to buy a bigger GB model I would have been like, "It's ok I'll take my money elsewhere then".

The trade in price is a small bit ridiculous again but at the end of the day they have to make some kind of a profit as they are a business so I dunno.... I actually found out that the trade-in price is determined by how many copies they have, if you trade in a game that they might have very few copies of you'll get more money. However you go trading in games like Mario and Call of Duty you aren't really going to get a lot for them as they'll have a load of them in stock.

I guess the Gamestop in my town has sorta spoilt me for a bias opinion but at the end of the day, I don't trade in games and I find the people that work there to be really nice so I don't care if they are one of America's worst companies to work for.....

I've been going to gamestop since I practically started playing games. I never had a problem with my gamestop. In fact they're overly nice always talking to me leisurely like we're friends. (Probably because we are... I've been going there for who knows how long.)

I'm only asked once if there was anything I'd like to pre order, per visit. That's not too bad. The guys who work there told me they only ask because they have to. And that their shipments and stuff is based solely on how many pre orders they get. (There was something else too, but I forget what. This was a while ago.)

So yeah maybe not ALL gamestops are perfect, but that doesn't mean the company should die out. I like going there and a lot of others do too. I mean I'd rather get some money for my games rather than none at all, but that's just my opinion.

Speaking of which!~ I'm headed there now!~

When I go to gamestop the people are usually nice and cool and they know alot about the games they sell. Anyway I don't think the complaining is about the workers, its from the workers, about the company. But I do have to admit that when I pre-ordered KH3D the guy tried to get me to pre-order New super mario bros 2 as well.

I have many friends who work at Gamestop, and none of them really complain about it. they actually really love it.

Now what they really hate is when people come in the store and start bitching at them about how they feel the employees are jipping them on their trades ins, and start getting mad at them like it's their fault. Oh, and when people bitch about how their store isn't that great when they don't have a particular item they want. What they *love* the most is when people get snippet at them for asking if they want to preorder games coming up and try offering them a better product, while giving them ways to help afford it because they know it will cost them more money.

Seriously guys, I wish I could come to your work place and give you shit for doing your job. It is so ignorant of people to say things like this. Retail is one of the hardest jobs to work, I would know I've done it for 4 years. Customers usually treat cashiers as lower than scum for doing things that are required by their companies for them to even keep their jobs. Do you know that 80% of them don't even do it to the extent their managers want them to? The employees KNOW customers hate this shit, and try to do it as nicely as possible, without any pressure.

Sure occasionally you'll get the employee who is over zealous and doesn't want to let you say no. That person is usually a manager. You see, they do that because the amount of money that store gets to have, well, everything they have, is directly dependent on what they sell. (Also; Gamestop makes little money on new games and majority of their profit comes from selling preowned games). If a store doesn't make enough money, they don't as much product. This also effects the amount of hours are available to the manager to assign his employees. Less business means less hours means perfectly good human being aren't getting paid just because you wanted 3 bucks more on your trade in.

And if you have a problem with your specific Gamestop's customer service, that's the people themselves, not the company. Go to the manager and TELL them the kind of service you had, trust me they want to know. If they have a bad apple that is costing them customers, they will want to fix it.

The workers in my Gamestop r so nice. They always give you little bonus stuff and things for a cheap price. I mean yeah they bug u about pre-ordering but THEY HAVE TO. It's not really their fault. And whenever I say no they don't bug me about it again. So it really makes me sad when people hate Gamestop :(

How else am I suppose to get my games? (It's the only trust-worthy game shop in my town)

Would you like to sign up for our power up plan? No? Would you like to buy another game? 3rd choice is free! No? Then, how about we keep you locked in this store so you can forever hear about our crappy plans.

According to a recent report, video game retailer GameStop is the tenth worst company to work for in America. Out of 416 reviews, GameStop has an overall rating of a 2.7 on a five-point scale. One reviewer claims that rather than focusing on its costumers, GameStop’s top priority is trying to make people pre-order any title – even if it’s a bad game. GameStop employees apparently complain that the company favors sales more than customer service.

I kinda have to agree on this. Because one time when i was at GameStop I was buying the new PS3 slim. And the guy at the register said to buy this newer slim model with more giggabytes. So I'm like "No thanks I don't have enough money to buy that one" and he kept on bugging me about why I should buy it. it was soooo annoyijg because he kept trying to persuade me to buy it when i didn't even have enough money for it nor was I even interested in it. And then there's the whole "trade in a game and get money for it" crap that they do. I can;t tell you how much I hate how GameStop gives you low money for an expensive game you bought that you want to trade it. So I have to agree that GameStop totally focusing more about money than customer service.

I don't really see why you're complaining about that last part. A lot of salespeople are paid based on how much they sell. He was probably really desperate for money. I don't see what the big deal is. And them not giving you a lot of money for games? Of course they wouldn't. That would be really bad for business. If they want to make money (which, while customer service is a big deal and all, the point of a company is to make money, and that's all people do or even should care about) then it makes sense for them to pay you less. Think of it this way: You pay $60 for a game from their store. They give you half of the money back, for easy numbers. So they just lost $30. And they're going to resell that game for around $20 or $30 (depending on the game. It varies quite a bit at my local GameStop) So they'll make very little profit if they pay you a lot. It may not always seem great for us, but it's a very logical way of doing things. :/
