Roxas and Ventus' voice in Dream Drop Distance

Posted

So I noticed while playing Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance.... what the heck did Jesse Mccartney do to his voice for Roxas and Ventus??? He put a random "lisp" into the character when they talked... it was just really odd to me to see him change his voice like that....

Did you guys notice it? If I can find a video I will edit this and post a comparison.

This video demonstrates it kind of well.....

Yeah, I noticed that too. In fact it was even in the trailer and I noticed it there but I hoped that it would be different in the end, well it wasn't. I don't know whether he did something or whether it had something to do with the 3ds but it sounded weird! :(

He wanted to make distinct voices for Roxas and Ventus, and I think he might have been a bit sick while recording Roxas' voice. He sounds fine as Ventus.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the voice of Roxas. As for Ventus, he sounded a lot like Sora.

Totally agree, why the lisp? He also made Ventus' voice weirdly high...

" Sora Heart is like a hotel

There is

Ven, Roxas, Maybe Xion, Even Kairi was in Sora heart

But She checked out! "

F this!!

I thought he did a great job with both voices. Ventus's was higher pitched than Roxas's. but this is JM's first time voice acting in a video game, so I think he's doing a great job!

This voice sounds much more similar too his voice in KH2 rather than the strange performance in Days. In 358/2 Days it sound like he was having a heavy cold throughout the entire game. If any of the performances is strange it's that one. The one in KH2 and KH3D is fine.

I don't see what you're talking about with the lisp.  The only problem I seem to hear is how Roxas can't seem to speak above a slightly-forceful whisper.  His KH2 performance had much stronger (literally) voice acting than in DDD or Days, I think.

I don't see a problem with Ventus, though, but maybe that's only because he has one line.

I've didn't notice it until now.

He's voiced Roxas since 2006 (KH2, 358/2 Days, BBS and DDD. Re:Coded counts but he didn't record anything, they just reused his battle quotes and grunts.).

The lisp is DEFINITELY there. In BBS, he was perfect. Literally, his voice was perfect. KH2, his voice was perfect. But now... in DDD... why the heck did he change it???

Fool. I hear no lisp. It just sounds like he is trying to say something really important to Sora.

This is the impression I get here. He sounds different here because of the context and the content of what he's actually saying.

Could just be us though.

I would believe that if it wasn't that way throughout every scene in the game that features Roxas and Ventus.

I was too caught up in the story to even think about it. I'm bad at paying attention to small details especially when playing a KH game. I see the big picture the first time playing, then notice the small things on the second or third playthrough

He talked so slow and so softly

In the first video, yes, but watch the one that I just posted above your comment (I put it in the spoiler bars since it is the end of the game).

is it a bad thing ?

becuase i find it's important to change the way of talking(slow or fast) since they're different character.

Im still playing the story haha, not further then that

Oh then don't watch the second video!!! I don't want to spoil anything for you :0

IDK, he sounds fine to me. He just sounded more emotional in this game. But I love how there's a difference between Roxas and Ventus's voice. Ventus sounds younger, has a higher voice, Roxas sounds a tad older, more mature. If anything, Sora was the one who sounded odd in DDD.

I think any voices changed a lot

Are you guys kidding? Jesse had to have two different voices for two different characters so that people could differentiate who's who purely by sound. It's like telling the actor of Batman not to change his voice between Bruce Wayne and Batman.

They both sounded like they usually do. It's just that it's the first time both have been in a game together and you actually get to hear the really well done voice differentiation the Jesse can do. Haley does a worse job. Vanitas has Sora's KH2 voice and Sora's voice is cracking from the fact that Haley had to make him sound younger in the dream world. Sadly enough, the dream world voicing got stuck with Sora outside of the dream world.
