Posted July 2, 201411 yr I've never played FF before. (Believe it or not). I felt it was confusing, I'd thought i'll give the series a go, What is a recommended 1st game in the FF series should i play? Ranging from PS2 - PS3.
July 2, 201411 yr If you're ranging from PS2, start with FFX (Though you should probably get the HD Remaster). Although, I'd strongly recommend starting from FF1 and working your way down. If you have to, even using emulators. But FFX is as good a place to start as any.

However, a PS3 can practically play any of them through PSN. If you want something that's a bit simple, try FFIV. It's got a pretty good story and doesn't have the possibly-confusing features later games have.

I blew through most of my spending money on my capture device, And I've been busy trying to take care of myself with my paid money. Hopefully PSN puts out a good FF game for PS + Users.

You might be lucky with the remasters, as they're newer titles to the Vita/PS3 libraries.
July 2, 201411 yr As crazy as it may sound, I would say start with xiii. It is by far the most criticized game in the series, but that comes a lot from long-term fans. Xiii was my 3rd FF game and I thought it was quite good. But X would not be a bad starting place either.
July 2, 201411 yr I started with VII, since that's the one that I always heard was the best before I got into the series. I'll let you be the judge of how good it is compared to the others, but I think it's a good starting point. And it's not too expensive on PSN

July 2, 201411 yr Play FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster and FINAL FANTASY XIII. PlayStation 3 versions of course. Then FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 and LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII. And then you can branch off and play the original nine through PSOne Classics, PSP versions, smartphones, tablets etc.

FF has like same amount of games as Harry potter as movies. haha. I've tried playing the series, but it seemed confusing for me then started playing kingdom hearts. But the series seems more interesting now and i'd want to get into it again. FF on PS1? dang, the series must have a huge history then, haha.
July 2, 201411 yr I'd recommend FFVII,this is where I started because of its reputation. Its also one of the easiest,so it will be easier to get into and its the best game of the serie in my opinion, the story is really good. You could also start with FFVI I guess, its even easier then VII and the story is pretty good too.
July 2, 201411 yr Start with ffx, but remember to stay the firetruck Away from xiii, thats where cancers are made of

And if he wants to play a game made by the most successful team in Square Enix history he can.
July 2, 201411 yr If it helps, I'm not a huge FF fan myself. However, I did love FF12. I'm not sure if veteran fans would recommend this one but I thought it was good.
July 2, 201411 yr Personally I started with XIII. The combat system is super fun and engaging, and the level up system is intuitive and it's fun to become over leveled and plow through bosses. Plus, if you're getting KH3, XIII is good to play at some point because I'm 99.9% sure Lightning will be in it. She's recently became the face for the final fantasy series.
July 2, 201411 yr I reccomend FFVIII, FFVII, FFX, and FFXIII they're all really good but I'll leave it up to you where to start The PSN games are just $9.99 if I remember right
July 2, 201411 yr I reccomend you play FFIX. It's a pretty great game with an interesting story, good gameplay, and amazing characters. You should be able to get it on the PS store for only ten US dollars (not sure how much it is in other currencies). Plus, from what I've heard, it was made with the intent of winning back the FF fans that didn't like the more science fictiony atmosphere and dark depressing tone of FF VII and VIII.
July 2, 201411 yr I would've said FFIV if you had a PSP But you can get Final Fantasy 6 from the PS Store......both are really great especially FF6 ^_^
July 2, 201411 yr FFVI- oh, PS2/PS3 only... Well... I guess X, then... He can always play the PSOne Classic. I wouldn't since I'd have the 50Hz version, but since he has the 60Hz version he could do so. The main issue is how buggy the PS1 ports of the old FF games are. I don't know if FFVI has any major problems, but FFV had a random save deleting glitch, and IV and Chrono Trigger both had horrible loading times.

(I know because I have the game.) Like you have to wait a bit every time you open the menu or walk to a different area. It doesn't feel like much at first, but it starts to get really obnoxious later on.
July 2, 201411 yr If you can find a copy of IX, I'd go with that, mainly because the gameplay style seems to be a pretty good place to learn the ins and outs of most Final Fantasy games. It teaches you the nuances of spells and equipment and such a little better, not to mention that the story is fantastic.

I don't know if FFVI has any major problems, but FFV had a random save deleting glitch, and IV and Chrono Trigger both had horrible loading times. That would be Tose's fault then. But yeah, I'd never play them anyway since they're 50Hz.
