The big question of life answered......KH1 vs KH2

Posted

This is me trying to be as unbiased as possible while comparing these two games, enjoy.

Plot-So, in KH1 the plot was sort of a mixture of a serious Final Fantasy story and a lighthearted  Disney story, which isn't a bad thing at all. It had  tragedy, conflict, and humor in the story. Sora was an interesting character with motivation to find his friends, and so were Donald and Goofy. While Sora was trying to find Riku and Kairi, Donald and Goofy were trying to find King Mickey. And the moment when Donald and Goofy betrayed Sora to go with Riku was heart shattering. And in the Disney worlds it was fun watching the banter between Donald and Sora, while seeing how clumsy Goofy could be. You really felt like You were playing through a Disney movie. Every world had plot significance in one way or another, and you were always eager to get to the next world. It was a fantastic plot that I loved. In KH2, it kind of ditched the disney aspect of the story to give more importance to the final fantasy aspect, which both added to the plot and detracted from it. The opening segment with Roxas was just amazing, it had Fantastic Pacing, and was filled with with interesting moments from beginning to end. But when the Sora part of the game came along, it kind of went downhill. Most of the worlds in the story weren't plot significant or interesting. It kind of felt like you were watching A disney movie rather than being in a disney movie. Aside from Timeless River and Disney castle, Donald and Goofy weren't really interesting at all. I loved them in those worlds, but other than that, they just felt like assets in combat. And as for Sora's character, this was the game that he started to become a pussy. He's way too nice, and doesn't feel like a real character. Aside from Timeless River and Disney castle, none of the disney worlds were really plot significant aside from the obligatory Org. XIII boss battle in every world. The only worlds with plot signifigance were those original to the KH series. I can honestly say the only disney character I really liked in this game was Maleficent, and I think this was her best appearance in a KH game. But I do think that The beginning segment with Roxas in Traverse Town, Hollow Bastion, and the world that never was had good enough stories to make the plot better in KH2. I just think that KH1 had the better disney worlds partly for that reason.

I will finish this thread tomorrow, but for now I need to sleep.

Well , in my view , "storyline-wise" Kingdom Hearts I could focus more on the Disney characters and the Disney worlds . But , in KH II , more and more characters , Final Fantasy or original KH ones , were introduced making the plot difficult to focus on the Disney aspect of the game .

It will be interesting to read your analysis. One piece of advice, you should break up that massive paragraph into two or three smaller paragraphs. It's a bit hard reading a screen of text.

KHII will always be better due to 100% more Pence

jiminee crikot is better

Well...for me, I would rather play Kingdom Hearts II, since you have more to do. The reason is, because I already finsihed KH final mix 1.5, I got bored-well, losing interest in it. I was trying to get Sora to 100 atk by grinding, but...knowing number 1/I, it won't be easy. However, in number 2/II, you can get the materials easy by abillities and equipment and such. So yeah...I find number 2 better, just to synthesis items. That, and I won't get bored by grinding, since Sora is more powerful than number 1. By that, I mean dive forms, abillities, and reaction command (which isn't reallisticly cannon).

KH2 is way better only because they used better technology, and since they had experience and an idea of how they were gonna make the game, it only made it better. It also increased the storyline. KH1 seemed like a game where they didn't have much of an idea of what they were going to do.

Better technology? They used the exact same technology. Lol.

Oh yeah, true... Since it was on PS2. But my other reasons practically sum up my reason for picking KH2. Along with like you would of said Worlds, characters, graphics etc.

I have to say, Kingdom Hearta 2 was the superior game for me. Yes, it didn't have the Disney appeal that the other one did, but fans were getting older, and needed a mature story line to follow. Kingdom Hearts 1 set the tone, but I think KH2 expanded on that tone. The Disney worlds are a big part, and for KH3, I hope Square can combine Disney with Final Fantasy even better than they have before!

Honestly I felt like the second visits to the worlds in KH2 were pretty important for the plot. In the Land of Dragons you had to chase Riku around and fight Xigbar, in Port Royal you had to fight Luxord and destroy the heartless (which means you're helping Org.XIII). In KH1, the story for each world mixed the disney story and the main story together (probably because the main story centered on disney characters, the princesses of heart) but in KH2, the disney story and the main story are separated in the first and second visit to each world. So if you consider the second visits in KH2, the story of the disney worlds is important.

They're both great games, but KHII is greater. (1 is still my favorite, though.)

What I mean is the disney character's weren't that important in the plot. In KH1 Triton scolded Sora for meddling in other worlds and gave some backstory to the Keyblade. In KH1 the only plot important disney characters were Mickey,Maleficent, and Pete, and even then those characters weren't exclusive to any one world.

Oh okay! You're definitely right on that one.

Between both games, it's almost a tie in my opinion.

But still I prefer Kingdom Hearts II xD

i feel that kingdom hearts was more disney orieanted (disney:60% final fantasy:40% ) while kingdom hearts 2 was more final fantasy (disney:40% final fantasy:60) but overall kh2 is better by far in the eyes of many including myself kingdom hearts 2 just did so much right we barily noticed the wrong.

My vote is eternally for the second, just because it developed an actual plot aside from "oh just passing through looking for friends. Oh wait, this key came with responsibilty???" It really establishes some strong "Kingdom Hearts" characters in the organization and I much preferred the game mechanics, and the new outfit of course. Roxas gameplay was heartbreaking. I love it.

KHI seems a little immature in comparison. It's little kid Disney Sora.

Let's all hope that after KHIII we'll never have to discuss which is the best game again.

I am one of the very few who personally finds KHI to be the superior game. The gameplay in KHI was strategic, and made me actually think. In KHII, it was basically just mashing buttons to get cool flashy combos. The story in KHI was more focused, too, and I liked the whole rivalry between Sora and Riku. The atmosphere in KHI was absolutely perfect, and there's just a magic feeling about it that makes me love the experience no matter how many times I play it. I love KHII, it's in my top 3 games in the series, but KHI will always be my favorite.

KHII is better IMO, mostly for the plot and the characters. Maybe also because while I really liked KHI, KHII was the one that really got me into Kingdom Hearts.

KHI has better disney worlds, though, and it's... so simple and clean ( xD) But it lacks the kingdom hearts in it. I mean the original characters and worlds (and complicated storylines?) and all... So that's why I say KHII.

My fav one is absolutely KH2, there are many reasons: My childhood friend suggested me to play this game, and I quickly fell in love with it. It was my very first KH game, and this "love" became bigger when I bought the Final Mix version from ebay. Then I bought, of course, KH1 and KH1FM  and I loved them but not as much as KH2. Only looking at the game cover still makes me a lot of "Feels"..

All Kingdom Hearts games are just marvelous as they are xD But, comparing Kingdom Hearts I to Kingdom Hearts II, there's nothing to do: Kingdom Hearts II has an improved structure but it doesn't give me the nostalgia factor that Kingdom Hearts I always gives me.. And you said that Kingdom Hearts II gave up some of the Disney aspects to strengthen the Final Fantasy ones, but it's not quite like that: it's Kingdom Hearts I the one with the stronger Final Fantasy factor. All the mysteries, the minigames, the numerous easter eggs.. a player just keep being eager to discover new things! All those elements are the typical ones that made the Final Fantasy series so popular, and those aspects went diminishing as the Saga developed..
