Dracozombie 4,554 Posted April 2, 2015 Found this last night. Just fyi. You can have all the opinions you want, and you certainly have the right to express them. Just don't mistake it for a Get Out of Jail Free card if people think you're a dick. There are consequences for your words -- just not government-mandated ones. (Well, I'm sure they'd have a field day if you called the president a dickwad to his face, but, y'know, I wouldn't test it out.) 17 Exiblade7, khoathkeeper13, WakelessDream and 14 others reacted to this

Psychic_Ketchup 367 Posted April 2, 2015 Good way to spend your 2000th post But yeah, some people go around offending the world and then hiding behind free speech laws. Those people are dicks and should just firetruck the hell off. 1 Rizzyy reacted to this
Nero Kunivas 3,046 Posted April 2, 2015 If I had a Pound for every time I heard someone misuse Freedom of Speech in those ways you listed...especially on the Internet... I'd be a Rich Boy. (Because I am nary a man. ) Nice 2,000th Post BTW. X3
Soul Eater Evans 4,045 Posted April 2, 2015 I want to call a President a dickwad now.
Dracozombie 4,554 Posted April 2, 2015 Oh dear I had not realized that was in fact my 2000th post. Good way to unknowingly celebrate a milestone! I do not recommend calling the president a dickwad to his face. It might be a bad idea. 2 Soul Eater Evans and Nero Kunivas reacted to this
Jake 1,488 Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) Agreed. You have the right to voice your opinions but if you end up being a dick and think everything you say and do is okay, you got another thing coming. Edited April 2, 2015 by CrownedCyborgHDMaster
Firaga 5,947 Posted April 2, 2015 I certainly agree with this, knowing my *ahem* reputation.
Caity 3,946 Posted April 2, 2015 I like to think of it as "Just because you have the right to freedom of speech doesn't mean you have the right to be an ass" 9 Jilly Shears, VisitJoan, Shuy and 6 others reacted to this
BlankShell 638 Posted April 3, 2015 Depends on what you mean by censorship, but absolutely. So god damn true. That said, I also think some people's opinions are so dumb as to make me wish they could be censored, but alas.
Aang 649 Posted April 3, 2015 I couldn't agree more. The only exception is if you were to post something us moderators think is stupid. that was sarcasm
AlixtheMagi13 245 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) I agree, just because you have freedom of speech. That doesn't mean you have to be a jerk because people don't share your exact opinions.. Edited April 3, 2015 by AlixtheMagi13
Kaweebo 3,617 Posted April 3, 2015 Actually, people totally have the right to be assholes. Notice the 'Freedom of Speech is not Freedom from Disagreement, Debate, Criticism, Punishment, Hate, Being Offended, Responsibility and Consequence'. Putting your ideas and opinions out there is opening yourself up to a world of differing ideas and people being jackasses isn't a crime. Now, actual threats of violence or an invasion of privacy like mailing a knife to somebody's house or even doxxing is reprehensible and absolutely illegal, but if some jerk is just calling you bad names online, well, that's his right to Freedom of Speech as well. Yes, you totally have the right to be an asshole. You're still being an asshole. People who hide behind the freedom of speech excuse want there to be zero consequences for saying whatever the firetruck comes to their mind, no matter how insulting or stupid it is, because damn it IT'S MAH RITE. Sorry to inform those people, but you can't get away with everything. Sure, you probably won't get arrested for calling a grandma a c**t, but don't be surprised if the people around you give you the stink eye. They, frankly, will not give two shits about your legal right to have done it. Because you're an asshole. 2 Col.Random and Firaga reacted to this

VisitJoan 2,713 Posted April 4, 2015 The Question is not weather you can, it's weather you should. Yes, you can be an asshole, there's no question about that. The important thing is weather you stop and think "Should I be saying this? If I say this, will it insult someone on purpose? Would I want someone to say this to me?" Being an asshole does not make you a criminal. It does however, make people not want to be around you. 1 Dracozombie reacted to this
