This has been seriously bugging me for some friggin time now, and I just wanna hear from others: Is Sora the ONLY character in Kingdom Hearts who isn't special? Someone who isn't important? Ordinary?

 

Because ever since KH2, I've always thought that Sora was special in a way, like Kairi, who happens to be a Princess of Heart, or maybe another character in KH. But now after DDD, i'm hearing that Sora is not special; not like "chosen" special, but just "special" special. Some say he's special because he's ordinary, but I don't see that. I honestly can't seem to believe that after seeing everything that he's done. 

 

He's the only character so far who's managed to create bonds with anyone he meets and makes Nobodies like Axel feel like they had hearts. Even Ansem states that Sora may have the power to bring back those who were thought to be lost. 

 

I just... I can't even comprehend this load.

He has saved the world how many times? He's special. 

He's the key that connects everything. As if that isn't special.

I know, Sora saved the worlds countless times and is the Key that connects everything. But is every single KH character, EXCEPT for Sora, special? Because how Sora was shown in games like KH2 or Birth by Sleep makes it difficult for me to believe that he is anywhere near "ordinary". Heck, even showing Sora at all in Birth by Sleep seems to contradict the portrayal of being ordinary. 

 

Sorry if I'm acting all jerky or something. It's just that I hardly believe that Sora is ordinary. It's like you're in a large group of friends and all of your friends were invited to a big party, but you're the only one who wasn't invited.

Technically yes, Sora is supposed to be the only "ordinary" character. He's ordinary in comparison to everyone else: He was never technically chosen by the Keyblade and he isn't the physically strongest looking character. He doesn't have a heart of pure light like Kairi or Ven, nor does he have any degree of control over the darkness within him like Terra and Riku do. He isn't someone who was "never meant to exist" like Roxas, Xion, Namine, Axel and Repliku and he doesn't appear to have a special affinity for magic like Aqua and Lea do. He isn't the smartest tack in the box but he isn't dumb. Sora is, in comparison to everyone else, a really lucky kid who rose to the challenge he was faced. His simple outlook on life, his personality, and his sense of justice are supposed to make him a character that's relate-able to everyone. He's a character that everyone can identify with: he's had friend problems, he laughs and cries, he can be serious or silly, he can save the worlds but also fall to the darkness.

 

But it's in his relate-ability that has allowed him to connect with all the people in the series. He has a big heart that cares and that's his strength. Sora is and isn't special. He can relate to everyone in the series and draws strength from the lessons they and he have learned. It's from those connections that makes him special, that gave him the Keyblade, that gave him the strength to save the worlds twice, to be a unique individual. His friends give him the power to be special.

He's pretty special. Not only because of the fact that he saved the world many times, but also because of the fact that he has a strong heart. Plus, it's his destiny to save everyone.

Of course he's special! He's the guy destined to save everyone!

*sigh* so far, I can't seem to tell if this is making me feel better or worse. Hearing about Sora being "ordinary" feels like a slap to the face. Lately, Nomura has been putting in some stuff that seemed to contradict what he was going for.

how the hell is he ordinary? He has like 3 other people living inside him!

Just would like to note that he was indeed chosen by the Keyblade just not in the traditional way that Keyblade wielders normally go through. The Keyblade that was never meant for him chose Sora over Riku it's true wielder. It was Sora's destiny to wield the Keyblade one way or another he was going to have one.

Also, from what animemylove just said, Sora created TWO Nobodies for himself and for Kairi from his body and soul. That's pretty extreme in the laws of the KH Universe.

I wouldn't say it was Sora's "destiny" to wield the Keyblade. Just because he was chosen by the Keyblade AFTER Riku had taken it, doesn't necessarily mean he was destined to wield it "one way or another."

Aqua was even going to preform the ceremony for Sora but opted not to because she didn't want to repeat the scenario that her and Terra were going through. Ah, ok, I see your point, thank you. I wasn't fully convinced solely on the "Sora was chosen after Riku took it" point. I guess you're right then. Xehanort's quote/the quote for BBS: "Destiny is never left to chance" fits well here.

It basically means that everything happens for a reason. Destiny is written in stone. Nothing is a coincidence or 'chance' like is said in the quote. Sora is special, and it is his destiny to save everyone. So in that sense he is he chosen one. The chosen one by destiny.

Back to the topic then anyways.

And let's not forget that the others,especially some wielders from a decade ago,are completely incompetent firetrucks and he was the one competent enough to clean up their mess

Haha, whenever I read about Sora being normal, I'm like: "Yeah, a guy who can basically massacre armies of darkness, transform into different forms, create such strong bonds with the people he meets and save the worlds from dark harbingers of death is perfectly considered normal!"

 

But in all seriousness though, it's just like everyone here has mentioned.  The thing about Sora is that he has this ability to be able to connect with everyone he meets, leaving a mark on them forever, and thus, Sora is a person that is beloved by everyone.  He's headstrong and quick to act when injustice peeks its head, and although he's sometimes silly, he's also pretty deep.  One thing for sure is that Sora is always there.  And he's one hell of a Keyblade Wielder! X_X

 

Yeah, Sora's normal my butt! 

I'm probably the only who seems have these kind of particular suspicions; but the fact that Sora is able to create two Nobodies with just one set of body and soul, mend and restore hearts, bring back those thought to be lost, etc. has made me think that Sora is, in a way, connected the entity Kingdom Hearts.

 

Not like in a way that forces fate on himself, but more like it just gives him (possibly secret inhuman) qualities that make it seem like Sora could do a better job in being a hero than Riku possibly could, but only if Sora wanted to take the job.

well for some reason Nomura keeps trying to convince us that Sora is just an ordinary boy because I guess if the character isn't ordinary it's impossible to relate to him. Sora is definitely special. I believe the line "Sora, you are the key that connects everything" basically proves that. (that's paraphrasing Yen Sid in KH2, I believe)

Nomura for some reason wants to keep Sora as an ordinary person.

 

Yeah, cause a 15 year old boy who can slice through skyscrapers is SO ordinary.

He is more special than everyone else. "Remember, you are the one who will open the door to light."
