Today at SCEJA's 2015 press conference, Square Enix have officially announced Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue for the PlayStation 4, to release in 2016. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will lead into Kingdom Hearts III and contains:

 

- Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD

- Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Back Cover (movie)

- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage-

 

Dream Drop Distance HD is a HD remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D, which originally released in 2012. χ [chi] Back Cover is a HD movie based on Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ, and Birth by Sleep 0.2 is a new story based on the earlier concept of Birth by Sleep -Volume 2-, first teased in the Birth by Sleep Final Mix Secret Movie.

 

This announcement follows a leak earlier in the week about a mysterious game called Kingdom Hearts 2.9. It is unknown if they are one and the same or not.

Originally released in 2012, KINGDOM HEARTS [Dream Drop Distance] HD is a full-HD remastered version of KINGDOM HEARTS 3D [Dream Drop Distance]. Series protagonists Sora and Riku take on the Mark of Mastery exam in preparation for coming threats. The signature action of the KINGDOM HEARTS series has evolved, allowing players to experience faster-paced battles and exploration at a blistering pace.

This newly remastered title also features:

 

· KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage –

o A completely new playable episode that links to the story of KINGDOM HEARTS III, taking place after the storyline of KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep played from the perspective of Aqua.

 

· KINGDOM HEARTS χ [chi] Back Cover (movie)

o A new HD movie that tells the mysterious story of the Foretellers, connecting the earliest parts of the series’ history, showcased in the upcoming mobile title KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ[chi].

Lastly, Famitsu.com have revealed that this week's issue of Famitsu Weekly (releasing on September 17) will contain an article on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Here's a preview:

They really should release 1.5 and 2.5 for the ps4. SE logic is unreal.

Not sure if I should be excited or not. The only interesting thing for me is BBS 0.2 and it doesn't look like it will be a long game (or a game at all).

 

Also I'm a bit annoyed that KH3 is getting delayed because of this. 

How do people even know if BBS 0.2 is going to be a demo to Kingdom Hearts 3 they just announced that the title would only be featured to the 2.8 pack they never said anything about it only be a cutscene movie or demo. Im really hoping that it will be a full brand new game that's not just a demo for Kingdom Hearts 3. I also wonder when new information with more detail will be up for 2.8. 

I prefer 2.9 over 2.8 but heeeey HYYYYYYYYPEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! OMGOSH YES!! 

I don't mind that the names are silly. That Birth by Sleep 0.2 has me all kinds of excited. Even if people are dismissing it as a glorified KH3 demo, who cares? It's Aqua in pretty graphics.

 

I've seen some complaints about the series being milked and honestly... at least this has actual playable new content unlike the previous HD collections. I'm always up for more insights into the story.

 

Seriously though, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a silly title. Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- takes the best naming convention for any Kingdom Hearts name.

 

Interesting that this is just for the PS4 though. The 2.9 leak mentioned PS3 too... Welp, I don't care. My PS4 will have some Kingdom Hearts next year.

Now I really want a ps4 for since this game isn't going to be on the ps3.

Well I predicted it would be DDD + BbSv2 so no surprises there. The movie of Chi doesn't really get my attention right now. What surprised me is that BbS 0.2 has the engine from KH3, that could be great, we still don't know what could happen there. I'm hoping for a new secret ending too.

 

Not really exciting news for me, I already have DDD and I don't have PS4 anyway, but I look forward to BbS 0.2 and other new content. I hope it releases soon though

Woah, this is actually happening, all 3 titles look amazing, I'm interested to see what the chi backstory is, but I'm hyped for BBS 0.2, Aqua looks so stunning, I hope it's playable so badly

Sad that it is only for PS4. I only bought a Xbox One because KH3 wasn't PS4-exclusive. Now I have to buy a PS4!

I totally called it on X [chi] (or Unchained X). I knew they were going to do something regarding X [chi].

 

And I also called it on Aqua being in the Realm of Darkness, despite I didn't say BBB Vol. 2. I knew they were going to do something regarding Aqua being in the Realm of Darkness.

Finally, finally we get DDD HD on PS4, OMG!! I can't wait for this game. And Aqua looks so stunning with the Kingdom Shader, it's incredible.

In any case...this gets me quite excited~ DDDHD so I don't have to get a 3DS to play it, X Back Cover....umm, not sure what to make of it but I'm interested and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 BBS -A Fragmentary Passage- which is pretty much BBS Volume 2: Reforged. With the Kingdom Shader and all....damn Aqua, she looks very good in that shader, a good compliment to her character~ X3

 

I await this collection! And it has a release year too.

You misinterpreted my words! I was thinking that 2.9 might've been a typo!

Disappointed that it's not for PS3 like the leak implied, but if BbS 0.2 is using KH3's graphics engine I guess it's understandable. Otherwise this is pretty cool. I really hope that BbS 0.2 is actually a game, and not a cutscene movie. Sure, it probably won't be a full length game, but I think a short game is better than a few hours of cutscenes.

 

The X Back Cover interests me, as I really don't have much interest in the game, so it'll be nice to just get the important info.

 

...Also, Sony, would really love a backwards compatible PS4, would make my life much easier...
