Video games that have deep, little to no convoluted storylines

Posted

just what the titles says, what video game(s) do you think have a deep story. Keep in mind that kh doesn't count because the story is convoluted.

I think Tales of the Abyss has a very deep storyline. If you are interested in the storyline of the game, you should watch a walkthough of the game or actually play it. I recommend that you play the game. :)

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (especially Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky) and Xenoblade are games that I'd say have pretty deep stories. The gameplay's just as good for each of them, too.

Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, and Metal Gear Solid, lol. X)

Eh, I don't know. At this point I tend to prefer deep and convoluted being together rather than apart most of the time. I guess the only example I can think of is the Uncharted series, in how self contained each story can be but they still kind of rely on the legacy of the previous game before it, and they follow a simple enough sequence of progression. Other than that, my experience is pretty limited.

I don't know would Danganronpa count for this I know the story is really deep but I'm not sure if it's convoluted, it dose have a lot of twist and turns and serious mind firetrucks. All of the Persona games have really deep stories that is for sure

Final Fantasy X had a quite deep story and it wasn't too convulted in my opinion, unlike FFVII or XIII (mainly because they've got so many games in their franchieses).

Also, Golden Sun, Xenoblade Chronicles, Fire Emblem (all of them in general, but mainly the "Radiance/Radiant" ones) and plenty other games, but these are the ones I can think about at the moment.

the Persona games get pretty deep and stay away from being convoluted, I'd say. Once you do a bit of research on the games and the themes they present to you it's like you gain a new found respect for the series.

The convoluted ones ARE the deep ones. The only non-convoluted ones I can think of are the Personas. I guess to a degree The Last of Us.

How is Tales of the Abyss not convoluted? Cutscenes plagued with a bunch of technobabble that takes ages to understand and is there just to make the game seem deeper than it is. Villains that should have been dead come back and the last third of the game is literally the party backtracking from town to town trying to make sense of what's happening.

Anyway to answer the question:

Kingdom Hearts 1, Final Fantasy VI-IX, Xenoblade, Tales of Symphonia, TellTale's The Walking Dead, Bioshock, Chrono Trigger...

I honestly understood the main plot when I finished playing the game the first two times.I wasn't scratching my head when I finished the game.I guess tales of the abyss not as convoluted as the kh series is since Tales of the abyss doesn't have a sequels or prequels.

Ace Attorney for certain. Good stories, and not in the slightest convoluted (the first three games anyway...)Kingdom Hearts started getting really weird from 2 on wards I think. By Dream Drop Distance it went crazy xD

Ha ha the Kingdom Hearts series is not that convoluted, it's only convoluted to the people who think way too hard in the whole time travel element in Dream Drop Distance and never read Nomura's interviews to understand his logic in the Kingdom Hearts series. And most of the people on the internet who only bought Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 also said is convoluted because they never bought the two important handheld games Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance, to understand the main story. And never bought the three side story handheld games Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days, and Recoded, to understand the other important elements like Sora and Riku's time in Castle Oblivion, Roxas time in the organization, and Mickey discovering the hearts who are connected to Sora.

I agree, but it DOES take some time to understand the story for the kingdom hearts series completely.

I agree with on that one, because it does take to understand the whole Xehanort Saga. But as a true fan is worth it to completely understand.

yeah, I guess... I don't even fully understand the timetravel in DDD. I really hope Normura doesn't mess this one up in kh3.

I don't fully understand the time travel element in Dream Drop Distance as well but I just go along with it and not think too hard on it.

same here because when I think about it too hard, it gets frustrating which is why kh3 HAS to solve this time travel mystery that DDD apparently introduced.

Ni no Kuni. The story is so amazing! But depending on one's definition of "convoluted" the concepts and its plot twist might make it convoluted. I don't think it is though.

Xenoblade is so convoluted though. I still have questions over that game.

I'd say Persona is fairly deep, and isn't too convoluted. Especially Persona 4. It's kinda easy to understand and its got a great message.

I didn't really think of Xenoblade as convoluted. There were a couple questions that were left unanswered, but not nearly as many as some other games that I've played.

It depends on what you mean by 'deep'.

Pokémon Black and White/BW2 + Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire , Persona 4, and Xenoblade Chronicles come to mind.

Final Fantasy VI and IX, The World Ends With You, Valkyria Chronicles, Ace Attorney series, Proffesor Layton series, The last of Us, Chrono Cross and Chrono Thrigger... let me think another good games with deep plots.

For me it's Persona 4 and Persona 3

Those games almost revolves around the same themes Kingdom Hearts usually discuss like bonds, friendship and so on......but it handled it elegantly and perfectly with themes and characters that the player can relate to.It's really deep but at the same time it doesn't go to the "pretentious and convoluted bullshit" territory that the Kingdom Hearts series suffered from with the handheld entries.

This is just my opinion though and it's by no means a fact or anything so I hope no one gets offended by it

Thank God I'm not the only Persona fan on this site ^_^

And then they throw in all teh feels on you too xDx

Welp... Looking forward to pick Abyss back up then XDX (Still need to play Symphonia too. And Chrono Trigger. And FFVI-X)

And if we're still talking Tales, I thought the Xillias had some pretty good themes going (especially with 2). (Idk if people find them convoluted though.)

Unless there's some huge mindfrick at the very end of the game, I didn't think Xenoblade was that convoluted. Yeah, there were twists and stuff, but it didn't seem too crazy. But maybe that's because I took big breaks while getting through the game and I don't remember much xD

Also, yaaaaaay Silver, you're alive~

If you can roll in it, then it's deep enough.
