July 5, 20169 yr Popular Post I don't think any nation is dependent on whether or not it's citizens know their national anthem. You need to learn it in order to sing it in unison with all other citizens to waken your country's sleeping mecha spirit animal that runs nationalism for when the aliens attack.
July 5, 20169 yr at school tho I always had to mouth it because they would put in the second verse sometimes or I just forgot the lyrics Australians all let us rejoice for we are youngbut not really and fwee I don't know how to sing, this part boomerangs are pretty greaatt ♫ Edited July 5, 20169 yr by Yuno Gasai
July 5, 20169 yr I know the one from the area where I live in my country. I don't know if my country currently has one, and if it has, it probably is the old one, which is fascist and stuff (from the dictatorship).
July 5, 20169 yr I can't really think of any situation where it would be necessary to know it. I found myself in such a situation several years ago for the (British) Queen's Diamond Jubilee - 60 years on the throne - when everyone was singing the national anthem and I realised the only line I knew was 'God save the Queen'! I then made sure that I at least learned the first verse of it so I wouldn't feel so stupid next time.

July 5, 20169 yr I can sing it off the top of my head but as others have said, I don't find my Nation's dependent on whether or not I can sing these words or not. As someone whose first language isn't entirely english let me assure you there are different ways to express patriotism and gratitude beyond a song. Edited July 5, 20169 yr by Shimmy
July 5, 20169 yr I can sing The Star Spangled Banner in my sleep. They taught it for us for our musical in first grade.
July 5, 20169 yr I'm in Northern Ireland (so we get the choice between British ones and Irish ones), I know the names of them but not the words cause why would I bother. God Save the Queen and Land of Hope and Glory (Britain) Amhran na bhFiann (Ireland)

Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd,Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i'm golwg sydd hardd;Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw siEi nentydd, afonydd, i mi.Cytgan: 3. Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad dan ei droed,Mae hen iaith y Gymry mor fyw ag erioed,Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.
July 5, 20169 yr In Primary School we had to sing the Australian Anthem at every Assembly on a Monday Afternoon, so it's not too hard to remember

July 6, 20169 yr God save our gracious QueenLong live our noble QueenGod save the QueenSend her victoriousHappy and gloriousLong to reign over usGod save the QueenOr the primary school version Smack her in the gob With a walls ice cream Long to annoy us God save the Queen ... I think I just committed treason, but if I did then so did everyone else in primary school. YEAH THAT'S RIGHT, I'M TAKING YOU DOWN WITH ME. I never actually knew the anthem until the London Olympics, when I was 13 Never too late I suppose, but I knew the general tune and that However, I did know Jerusalem, which is seen as *England's * anthem. In the sane vein Flower of Scotland is Scotlands anthem. And did those feet in ancient times Walk upon England's mountains green And was the holy lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen And did the countenance divine Shine on upon our clouded hills And was Jerusalem builded here Upon these dark satanic mills

Didn't know what "girt by sea" meant until like grade 6, you'd think they'd explain something we sing constantly haha

July 7, 20169 yr I actually know the American National Anthem and the Japanese National Anthem. Kimigayo wa 君が代わ Chiyou ni yachiyo ni 千代に八千代に Sazare ishi no さざれ石の Iwao to narite いわおとなりて Koke no musu made こけのむすまで I think like everything has heard the American one at least once.
I do and can sing it off the top of my head.
