Update: Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding and Utada Hikaru's father interpreted the question wrong. It is currently undecided whether or not Utada will be returning for Kingdom Hearts III.

Utada Hikaru's father has confirmed via Twitter that the singer will be involved in the theme song for Kingdom Hearts III.

Utada Hikaru previously sang the theme songs for Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II, Hikari / Simple and Clean and Passion / Sanctuary in both Japanese and English, respectively. These songs have reappeared as the theme songs later in the series, but a new Utada song for the series has not been created since Kingdom Hearts II.

When asked by a fan if she was involved with the theme song for Kingdom Hearts III, her father simply replied "Yes."

A fan of Utada had asked both Utada's and her father on twitter if she'll return for KH3 and her father who is also Utada's manager replied with "yes" on the U3music twitter account.

Her father was the same person that stated a long time ago that Utada wouldn't do another theme song because she wasn't paid enough by Disney. Thoughts?

    Sanctuary has only been used twice for opening and three for ending themes.

     

    On topic, that's really nice to know!  It would be nice for a new song to be made and used for three.  But if not, I'd like Sanctuary to be used again.  I really like that song.

    The songs are amazing don't get me wrong but they've been reusing them a lot especially Simple & Clean

    I completely agree with you.  Simple & Clean has been used many times, but I feel Sanctuary hasn't been used enough.

    This is very good news to hear. I hope Utada comes back to do another song for KH3. Getting kinda tired of hearing Simple & Clean and Sanctuary all the time in the openings.

    It's about time for a new theme song (granted I would have considered doing a new one for Birth By Sleep rather than Simple and Clean again but I'd imagine lack of budget being a possible cause for that) glad to see she will do this one

    I imagine if she's returning, it'll be to record a new song. Otherwise it wouldn't be so newsworthy, considering her other songs were used for previous games.
