New Interview with series Director Tetsuya Nomura about Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III

soraspromise

Following the official start of E3 2016, Dengeki has posted a new interview with Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura focusing on the newly revealed Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue demo that premiered at E3 2016 as well as other details surrounding the game and it's development in conjunction with Kingdom Hearts III.

Here are a few snippets gathered from the interview.

  • Even though the news is not incoming as quickly as fans would hope, development is not delayed
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage- being the length of one world pertains more to the length of one world in Kingdom Hearts III. Tetsuya Nomura promises that this volume will be a decent length.
  • The battle system in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage- is a mixture of Birth by Sleep as well as Kingdom Hearts III; the command deck is not present but special attacks and such consume MP as they would in previous games like Kingdom Hearts II. Magic will effect the surrounding area, as previously talked about for Kingdom Hearts III. Using magic in different sequences will also create different effects on enemies (such as using Blizzard and then Thunder).
  • Lighting is something they focused on a lot during design for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III even though it hasn't been much of a major focus previously in the series.
  • Height within the playable features of the world is something that was also focused on for these games.
  • Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD plays with 60 frames per second.
  • A new Dream Eater is introduced in the version of Dream Drop Distance included in Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue named Catnuki (or Pondanyan in Japanese) which is a combination of a cat and a racoon dog (more commonly known as a Tanuki)
  • Tetsuya Nomura would like to give more Kingdom Hearts III news but at the moment it is important to focus on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue so he asks fans to please look forward to winter of this year for more news.
  • Information will be released regularly from Autumn until launch in December for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
  • Tetsuya Nomura is hoping to get a playable demo for their Japanese audience to experience.

Correction to the previous translation: Tetsuya Nomura talks about the possibility of another installment of TWEWY itself (as in a sequel) being difficult rather than it's involvement in the Kingdom Hearts series.

Some screenshots of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue were also included with the interview. You may find those below.

length of one KHIII world...a decent length...Hmmm. Well, that could count as KHIII news...sorta.

Hopefully we'll get some clean footage of the demo.

I figured the length wouldn't be quite we're used to. (Generally, I can knock out a Disney world in the old games in less than an hour.) I wonder how long the worlds will be in KHIII and, as a consequence, how many worlds we'll be getting. We might not get as many as before if they take longer to complete, although a lot of that time could actually just be because the worlds are bigger and thus more time will be spent exploring. Interesting stuff.

*grinds teeth* Just get Nier and FFVII out the way so I can get TWEWY already...

The bit about the world length sounds interesting, I'm assuming what was at E3 was about 20-30 mins, including the cutscenes, so there is likely to be a good amount playtime in 0.2...

New beautiful gameplay of 0.2 with Terra face reveal, lengthy time for the whole game of 0.2, 60 Fps for DDDHD, TWEWY characters returning, news on KH3 ready to be exposed, I don't know how much more of this I could take x_x

I keep hearing that KHIII will have more worlds than KHII did. Which, you know, I'm okay with as long as there's a purpose to those worlds. But right now, we only have like four or five worlds confirmed, and we still know so little, so it's hard to say with complete confidence how much worlds we'll be getting and how much substance will be in those worlds.

More fluffy animals incoming

 60fps? neat

I figured it would not just be castle of dreams but a bit of the realm of darkness as well.

Difficulties? I wonder what those could be since Nomura owns the twewy cast doesn't he? didney is it you

The link to the original interview on Dengeki seems to be broken.

They ended up taking down the article for the moment and we're not sure why.

So a new dream eater. I doubt that's the only thing they added. It would make more sense not to add anything new than just adding a single creature.I wish they'd tell us exactly how many hours 0.2 is.

60fps? Will be weird that this is the only game in the series to have it. So long as it isn't forced. As a gamer, I like having some options.New Dream Eater? Now I'm thinking they've added more.

Thank you for this awesome article, Sora'spromise!

Oh wow, even with the snippets here, we've already gotten some information on 2.8 and III!  What has me the most excited is that the length of 0.2 will pertain to that of a world in Kingdom Hearts III! Meaning that it'll last longer than a traditional KH world in the series to date!  That makes me happy!

Also, I find it cool that they're adding a new Dream Eater into DDD HD! :D I'm also very glad and relieved that development for Kingdom Hearts III is going smoothly!  And with Nomura stating to look forward to more news this Winter, I think now we can safely say that Kingdom Hearts III won't show up at E3!  But hey, I'm okay with that!  That just means we have an exciting Winter ahead of us! :D
