    I've always wondered why the series is known as MOTHER... but the first two games have the title of Earthbound.

    EarthBound was just the name used when it was brought to America. I think I heard that Nintendo of America thought Mother would be a weird name or something like that, so they changed it during localization. I don't know the exact reason for sure, though. ._.
