    see what i love about death note is that they were trying to make me sad, with the ending, but instead i watched it 4 times in a row and laughed each and every time!

    its very interesting, despite having so much conversation and so little action. i usually enjoy stories with more action. but, the story is just so intelligent and well written!

    its not that racism doesn't apply to them, like yes you can totally be prejudice against white people and such, but you can't exactly be racist since racism has to do with privilege and basically white peopple have had more privilege than any other race. im shit at explaining things, but that's sort of how it is. some people don't realize however that doesn't mean you can be hateful to a white person, thats never right.

    @ Koko: Privilege is only one of many things prejudice can be based around. In fact, the sort of circumstances your assertions suggest are often subverted by instances of prejudice e.g. in Britain, it is common for those of aristocratic background to be ridiculed, mocked, and lampooned by the middle classes.

    My cousin and I were talking about this at Christmas. My other cousins were like, "NOOOOOOOO YOU CAN TOTALLY BE RACIST AGAINST WHITE PEOPLE," and we said, "You can be prejudiced but you can't exactly be racist towards whites." And no matter how many times we tried to explain they still didn't get it.

    I always thought prejudice kind of came out of privilege. like, you have more privileges than someone else, therefore you believe yourself to be better than them. idk, but I agree with everything else you're saying.

    @ Koko & TAofKM: Racism is simply another form of prejudice and is thus, like any other type of discrimination, based mostly around the inherent sub-/unconscious trait of most humans to hate or fear that which is "other". To suggest that you cannot be racist to white people is incorrect, just as suggesting that such things as "hetero-phobia" or prejudice against the wealthy cannot exist would be false. My previous point was that such prejudices are not based around privile...

    ... privilege i.e. you could live in a society in which many races are equally privileged, yet racism would still exist. The term racism means "prejudice directed at someone of a different race". Thus, a black person discriminating against a white person due to his different skin colour would indeed be racist.
