I am so excited for Final Fantasy XVI! I don't think it'll be that long before we eventually get it!

Likely by Holiday 2021 if not sooner. The game seems to be closer to release than a lot of people think.

NTWEWY Theory Time
Gonna spoiler the whole thing for those who didn't experience A New Day

In the epilogue exclusive to Final Remix, Coco shoots and kills Neku and escapes from Joshua and Beat. She revives Sho Minamimoto and tells him that Neku will need a new partner to play the game. Rindo is the new protagonist and he's experiencing similar visions that Neku had been seeing during A New Day to which he even feels familiar with the girl in the visions. He also partners with Minamimoto as revealed in the trailer. So either Rindo shares some weird connection with Neku or he is an entire reincarnation of Neku with few detached memories.

 

Of course Nomura said the game follows up the anime but the anime follows the story of the original game with updated stuff like Smartphones and whatnot. Maybe the anime will reach into A New Day and maybe a bit further, but either way, the connection is quite strong, especially with the events of A New Day tying into certain character appearances in the trailer for NTWEWY.

Wait. So the anime isn't just a retelling of the game?
