Is Yen Sid Evil, Lazy, or Weak?

Posted

Okay, I understand that Yen Sid 'doffed' his mantle as Keyblade Master and is retired now, so maybe that's why he doesn't do anything, 'cuse in his mind he figures "I did my time, now it's time for me to kick back and enjoy retirement", but he literally just sits there and does nothing but share his knowledge!

In Birth by Sleep, he probably could've prevented what happened to Terra, Ven, and Aqua had he stepped up- I mean, HE was the adult in that situation; with Eraqus taken out, shouldn't Yen Sid have faced Xehanort himself to deal with the problems of the past instead of forcing the burden on the kids of the new generation? Granted Terra and Ven's actions led to the final outcome, but really it was the previous generation (Xehanort) that was bringing about the problems on the new generation.

In KHII everything turned out pretty well, but he still did the same thing: told Sora and the others what to do and left it to them.

In Dream Drop Distance, he 'proctors' the Mark of Mastery exam, but doesn't even realize Xehanort's been interfering until long after it began. Then when they risk losing one of their main Keyblade wielders, he just has every one else go out and save him even though failure could mean complete victory for Xehanort. In the end everything worked out, but had it not and he didn't intervene...

So, do you think he's just accepting retirement full-on and stubbornly refusing to do anything himself anymore besides sharing his wisdom, or did his ventures in the past render him far weaker than he used to be and simply no longer possesses the power/strength to do things himself anymore, or is he secretly in cahoots with Xehanort? o.O

Lazy

This is how I understand Yen Sid. He's extremely powerful, but lazy, and has master the technique of coming of as a smart and clever man when in reality he's a blind moron. He might have been smarter at one point in time but now he's suffering from old man decease. Xehanort too suffers from this.

Lazy but not evil. Weak, well haven't seen him fight or anything, but he is a powerful wizard (I think)

He could have done many things, but the fact that he chooses to stay in his tower proves how lazy he is.

Unless he can't leave that tower...

Ooh interesting point! O.O He may be bound to the tower due to whatever happened back when he WAS a Keyblade Master... :O But then again, he did teleport after Sora and the others left in KHII, but maybe he was just teleporting to a different part of the tower... >.<

Fool. I don't think he even has a keyblade anymore. And this battle is for keyblade wielders.

He's too wise to get mixed up in anything With Nomura's name on it.

I see him as more of a Zordon-like role to Sora and his friends tbh. He has great power, you'd be mad not to see it. Otherwise, Pete wouldnt have been so bent on making him into a heartless. However, his role here is to guide the young heroes rather then to actually fight. And I've seen how it is with older people, not saying all of them or I'd be more respectful of all elders but anyways its like this: To them, they feel the need to let those younger then them take up the battle they were part of years ago and retired, not because they're lazy but because this battle is for the younger generation and their job now is to prepare them for it the best they can by offering their wisdom. Otherwise, Yen-Sid and Merlin would be out there kickin butt too :P

Niether, I know he is no longer an active Keyblade Master and all but he still keeps a close watch on the balance between Light and Darkness basically he's like a God watching over the world since he's that powerful.

Maybe he realises he's too old to handle things... Do you guys think he could handle a head oon fight against Xehanort? The guy is a hundred times more intelligent than him. Maybe he just can't handle the fighting well now that he's old. Back problem probably

Not to metion Disney doesn't like to see their characters fight too much

He's old (I'd say several hundred years old) and realizes that his role in these events that are leading up to (and possibly including) a potential 2nd keyblade war (IIRC, he believes that it's inevitable) is that of a teacher.

If he interfered at the very beginning, none of the things that did happen would've happened, thus KHI-KH3D would be pretty pointless to be. Not to forget KHIII.

So what would we be playing and looking forward to now, if these things never happened which shaped the very story of Kingdom Hearts? It would be all Yen Sid's fault, cause he wasn't all lazy for once and interfered!

He's just old. I'm betting that in KH3, we finally get to see Yen Sid go full pwnage mode kinda like Yoda in Star Wars 2 even though that movie didn't happen.

Yen Sid's roll in everything has always been to be a Wise Mentor.  If he did step in and explain everything or intervene basically the whole plot would be really easy, boring with no mystery or removed entirely

Four words: Beggars can't be choosers.

He's like Dumbledore. Dumbledore could have kicked Voldemort's ass, but he new it wasn't his place. Same thing applies here. KH is big on destiny and Yen Sid knows that it's not his destiny to take down Xehanort.

*Applause*

He probably wants to train the younger keyblade masters, so that when he does die, they can defend the worlds from any darkness that opposes them.

i think...weak and lazy, not evil. but if he is we will have to fight diSneY it self. the epic battles continues!!

Niether of the three. Yen Sid's running on his own show. I've no doubt that Yen Sid is powerful to set things right, but frankly, Xehanort is some one else's problem. Why should Yen Sid care?

He never struck me as a guy who could make active contributions.  I mean, Xehanort's an old fart and he still manages to cause damage, but I just got the impression Yen Sid wasn't someone who could contribute to the front lines anymore.  He seems pretty weak and frail to me, so I guess the best he can do is make sure the next generation can actually do something.

It might be because we don't have an idea to the full extent of Yen Sid's power.  A lot of his contributions and power slant more towards being indirect, whether a room that can condense time to just asking the stars where your buddy went.  It might be a cop-out, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that he's a "retired" keyblade master for a reason.

Yen Sid would be a perfect main antagonist in the next saga.

At the end of KH3 we might see a close-up of his face.

Hes the most famous keyblade teacher. And the most powerful wizard. Hes to wise though to explain the story, I always get confused with his dialogue all though I do think he will have a role in KH3.

I really thought Yen Sid was evil in KH2. Plus disappearing after made me think it more.

how about old
