The future is bright at Square Enix if people purchase their games

Posted

Square Enix is obviously struggling financially but there's plenty of reasons to be positive about their short term and long term future.

FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn has been a massive success. FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster is selling great in Japan. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX has also sold great worldwide.

And just look at their upcoming lineup:

FINAL FANTASY VI (iOS)

LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII (English version)

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster (English version)

FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn (PlayStation 4)

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX

Not to mention it's likely they'll release FINAL FANTASY IX on PC, FINAL FANTASY II, IV, IV: The After Years, V and VI on Windows Phone in the next year or so.

And Square Enix has confirmed that they'd like to release a HD remaster of FINAL FANTASY XII. And if we're lucky we'll also get HD remasters of Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus in the next couple years.

And in the long term future we've got FINAL FANTASY XV, Kingdom Hearts III and the inevitable FINAL FANTASY X-3.

And I didn't even mention the spin-off games, Kingdom Hearts Online (likely for smartphones and tablets), Tomb Raider and Hitman.

The future is bright at Square Enix but only if people purchase their games.

As long as Square Enix doesn't rush the games, they should be fine xD

Well they clearly aren't rushing FINAL FANTASY XV or Kingdom Hearts III.

And thank God they're not rushing them, we don't want another Sonic 06 xD

nomura pretty much has that future in his hands since the 2 most awaited titles are from his teams.

The future's bright considering even with the recession and them being in the red and all their financial records have still been improving each fiscal year.  They're still in the red, but it isn't getting worse from what it was last year, or the year before.  Slow progress is still improvement.

Final Fantasy VI for Android and iOS is disappointing imo. They ruined many of the sprites and left spelling errors in there. It's more like a straight "give us your money" plea rather than a faithful port/remake.

As long as their games aren't shitty,I'll buy their games

I know Bravely Default is out already in Japan and Europe but that is another game that is coming to the US next month and it is an absolutely fantastic game. Square Enix are more than just Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts they also have Dragon Quest as well as a few series from Eidos too so you cannot dismiss those.

Final Fantasy VI is such a disappointment on Android and iOS, it's a horrendous port of an excellent game. I'd like a XII HD remaster and they'll probably release it too but I don't think they should release CC or DoC again, if anything they should move on from the FF7 series. X-3 is also something I think they should avoid and not make something just for the sake of making it.

In the last year the SE titles I bought were Kingdom Hearts 1.5, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Bravely Default. I don't care for Lightning Returns or FF X/X-2 HD, nor do I own a PS4 to upgrade my copy of Final Fantasy XIV and I already own Final Fantasy IX on my PS3 so I'm not gonna pick up a PC version if they release it, so basically other than KH 2.5 there is nothing this year that Square Enix are wow-ing me with. Now if they released I dunno.... Final Fantasy Type-0 in the west then maybe I'd be happy but other than Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III and a sequel to Bravely Default there is literally nothing put ports to look forward to in this bright Square Enix future.

True. Square Enix has a lot of stuff in store for us . Square Enix might be struggling financially right now , but with more of its future releases , they are gonna make a freaking fortune .

I'd rather them focus their attention on actual games rather than ports or remasters

Though Nomura said he wants to put KHIII out as fast as he can. I honestly believe he wants to release it by 2015 (even if December) and may be willing to do whatever he can do to accomplish that. From the interviews, it seems they already have a lot of stuff done in the gameplay department. I mean, I doubt what they showed in the trailers is everything they currently have (who ever sdhows everything you have in a trailer), and he said they are preparing interactive terrains, or whatever he called, like a mountain with crumbling rocks, etc.

Didn't they write off Hitman: Absolution, Tomb Raider, and Sleeping Dogs as financial failures even though they both ended up selling millions of copies

Yes.

I think you can cross Tomb Raider off the list of financial failures cause it is said that at the end of 2013, the game managed to become profitable.

Depends on the games that people want to buy lol

Don't forget Bravely Default and Bravely Second. Those games are wayyy more promising than cheap remasters of old FF games, as it actually shows that SE has some creativity left. I purchased Bravely Default on day one to support Square Enix, and hopefully if others do the same (in 'Murica) they will localise more than just FF and KH.

Bravely Default is already out so why would I include it? Those cheap remasters are some of the highest rated games on the iTunes and Google Play Stores.

In Europe and Australasia. Not out in NA yet. You should at least include Bravely Second.

You include silly things like the PS4 version of FFXIV, or iOS/Android remasters, but not one of the most successful new IPs from Square Enix? Just seems a little weird.

Just say Australia.

I didn't include a lot of things.

The PlayStation 4 version of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn is far from silly. XIV: A Realm Reborn's going to be the greatest MMORPG of all time. iOS, Android and Windows Phone are fantastic formats.

And 3ds isn't? Okay, now I get it...

Acknowledging the PS4 version is silly to me, since PC is a far better platform for MMOs imo, and the game has been out for months in all territories.

Next time I'll just say New Zealand. I was trying to be civil, but pretending Australia, NZ, and Europe are equals was just silly of me.

Here at KH13.com we just say "Japan, North America, Australia & Europe".

Never said the Nintendo 3DS wasn't, just that the smartphone/tablet market is much larger.

You've never even played an MMORPG on the PlayStation 4. Lol.

Don't be dishonest, we all know you hate the 3DS, and PC gaming.

The PS4 is a fine console and I'm sure the port will be good, but making special mention of a port released a half a year after its international, multiplatform release just seems weird. You may as well mention the Definitive Edition of Tomb Raider. Its on PS4, so it must be revolutionary! Square Enix at their finest!

I don't. Lol. I have a 3DS and have played games on my computers.

Without going looking for your original post, but if I recall you said FF14 was boring to play back when it was in beta during the summer but now it'll be the greatest of all time? You clearly haven't played many mmo's.

I really like FF14, heck I played a lot of it over the Christmas break but it still is far from the "greatest MMORPG of all time". No matter how good it will eventually be with upcoming patches and the like it'll never ever touch the glory days of World of Warcraft.

I don't recall saying that.
