Is it Really Necessary to Have THREE Themes for Kairi?

Posted

Now, I'm not trying to insult her character. I actually support Kairi, and find her to be a pretty good character. Seriously, though... Why did she get not one, not two, but THREE themes in the first game? Riku and Sora didn't even get themes in the original Kingdom Hearts games, so why did Kairi get three?

And here come the obsessive Kairi fans ._.

Featured Replies

Nope.

Nah,she's the main damsel of the game so for whatever reason they decided to give her three freakin themes even though she didn't need three

Why is it a problem she got more than one?

I never said it was bad, I just don't see the point. :/

*Cracks knuckles*

Kairi I: It's blissful, peaceful, a sense of tranquility, comfort, and sanctuary. It's calming, soothing, relaxing, and just downright lovely to listen to.

Kairi II:  If you listen REALLY carefully, you get this sense of urgency, danger, trouble, and yet you can't help but think "everything will be ok." The harmonic chords are slightly harsh [which gives that sense of trouble], but her calming main melodic overtune overrides it. It's an audio symbolism for what she becomes for Sora and Riku: A comforting thought during a time of distress for them [until they find her].

Kairi III: My personal Favorite. A call back to more innocent times. In a way [and on a personal opinion, I believe] it hints at her true nature. Innocent, child-like, pure, and practically heavenly [expected from a princess xP].

Just a thought...

Where did I say I didn't like them? I just don't get why they didn't give her a single theme. Heck, Sora and Riku got nothing in the first game. From what I remember, Riku's never came until Days.

Where did I say I didn't like them?

Where did I accuse you of saying that?

You went into detail about why each one was good. It kind of seemed like you acted like I said they were bad.

She has 3?

Yep. four if you count the KHII version.

I don't get it either. What was the point anyway? If Red got three themes, then so should Sora and my boy Riku too. lol Somebody in the orchestra must have a crush on her.

Possibly. xD

I wonder why. What was the point in doing that.

That was me explaining why she has three separate themes...

Five counting BBS version, six counting the excerpt from Always on My Mind... Her theme is everywhere 8D

Yo, erryone just calm it down. Tbh, Three is too much for one game, no matter who the character is.

That's why I made this thread. ._.

I understand them making different ones to reflect her character, but I'm still not sure that it was that necessary to make three different themes.

Don't think of it as Kairi's theme and Kairi's theme alone. It isn't so much an indicator of Kairi as it is an indicator of her presence and meaning within the story, and what that means to the characters. It's like how in FFIX, the Melodies of Life tune appears many times, and each time it has a different meaning depending on how its applied to the scene. Kairi's musical theme gets remixed a lot because Kairi's literary theme appears more than a few times in different ways and forms.

That makes sense, I suppose. Still, I don't get exactly why they didn't even give Sora and Riku a theme in that one. You'd think they'd have themes, too. They were pretty much the two main characters.

But they're named after Kairi... so... yeah. It's all about Kairi. Duh.

Can't tell if it's a problem or just a random thought?

Just a random thought. I mean, I don't have a problem with it, I just don't see why it's necessary. :/

Not necessarily. Think of Lord of the Rings. There is a specific tune for the Ring itself, but it always seems to change depending on the context of the scene and the character it's relating to. So too with Kairi: yes, its a theme about Kairi, but it transgresses just being about the character herself and means more about the character's thematic standing in relation to the other characters and the story. In this regard, Kairi's very important: she's in a coma for most of the game, but the things she symbolizes are what drives Sora, Riku, the plot, and the artistic underlining of the story. The theme doesn't just mean "this is the part where Kairi the character is on screen;" it can also mean "the things which Kairi means is on screen."

No, it's not "necessary."

But it is nice. Each portray different emotions and such. While Riku and Sora both appear more often, Kairi is the driving force for BOTH of their actions. It makes sense for her theme to appear as a sense of comfort.

Never watched Lord of the Rings. lol I see your point though.

Well actually it's more than just Kairi being their driving force anymore since they're together again. It's more like everyone they know that are the driving forces of their actions now(based on Sora's most popular line in KH3D "My friends are my power").

Melodies of Life isn't necessarily related to a character as it's sort of like one of the main themes of the game not just for Zidane and Garnet

I like Kairi's themes, but honestly it kinda suffers from the same issue as One Winged Angel....getting spammed a LOT
