Something I've been noticing around the KH3 forum for a while is just how closed minded this fanbase has become, but it hasn't really baffled me till i saw a thread about maybe KH characters in Disney Infinity. With all the stuff I'm seeing i just have to wonder, how the hell did this fanbase become so closed minded?

 

The biggest instance of this has obviously been with suggestions of other Disney owned properties to be included in KH3, more specifically Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. All the time i just see people going "It doesn't fit with Kingdom Hearts!" or "KH should stay pure disney!" and stuff generally along those lines. While everyone's entitled to their opinions the basis for this is just stupid.

 

We're talking about a franchise that started off as a crossover between Disney and Final Fantasy, Final freaking Fantasy! put that on paper along with the other properties and say KH never existed and disneys thinking of a crossover to do, FF would be on the bottom of that list in terms of what we think would be successful. Next to nothing doesn't fit with KH. It's not even like these are franchises that are too mature to be adapted into the games, besides FF we have The World Ends With You, a game where you play as a kid who got shot and killed. Marvels done kid friendly before, look at Lego marvel, a competent game with a somewhat complex fun child friendly story. Star wars by nature is kid friendly, in fact the only concern i would have is that star wars takes place across the galaxy, and the world we see in KH is fragments of a planet and I'm not sure if they could make the universes physically mesh together well.

 

In regards to the "keep it pure Disney" argument I've seen several times....you could not have a weaker argument to not include stuff like Pixar and the others. Just because something is a Disney movie, doesn't make it good, look at lone ranger, look at Mars needs mom's. being Disney=/=good, and having other stuff wouldn't make it any less of KH than it already is.

 

now a quick comment about the Disney Infinity stuff. For those who haven't seen it. the argument that astounds me is basically "I don't want 10 year olds joining this franchise".........It's just....what the....how can anyone have that kind of thought? This is a franchise designed to appeal to children, it's rated E10, sometimes less, I'm sure many of us here joined the franchise at that age, maybe younger. I just.....you know what I mean.

 

I just have to wonder how this of all fan bases can be so closed minded.

Completely agree with everything you've said, though I've never thought about including Kingdom Hearts characters into Disney Infinity. Depending on the state of Disney Infinity at the time of Kingdom Heart III's release, I could easily see Disney doing... SOMETHING to promote the third entry in their toy box. Who are we kidding, even people who have no intention of owning Disney Infinity would go out and buy a Sora figurine.

Square actually stated that the story is NOT aimed at children.

 

But yeah, children play it and I don't see why it can't be in Disney Infinity, I love Disney infinity and I'm nearly 16. Not to mention there was a bioshock infinite map for DF.

 

 

And that game Is rated what, M?

 

Besides, ten year olds play games not meant for children anyway, like halo and deadspace, for example. 

 

No-one really cares in those fandoms though....

1: Nomura said in an interview he wanted  to make KH more attractive for all ages to enjoy,not just kids . It might've initially started out that way but as the plot progressed they wanted a wider appeal .

 

2.- To this very day a lot of people complain that they felt that Port Royal seemed strange and outta place and didn't like it . ( I liked it but not all people did ). Because of this they tend to be leery about this subject . Just because a movie is good /popular doesn't guarantee it a spot in KH3. It has to fit well too. Just sayin

 

3- I'm open to newer movies if they are done right.

I don't get what people have against Pixar being in KH. To me, Disney and Pixar are the same anyway. As for Marvel and Star Wars. They make me feel like it would be weird in the same way as Port Royal was. In my opinion, Port Royal didn't really fit in KH. It was akward. I think Star Wars and Marvel would fit in that same category. It would feel akward in the same way. I don't think it's being close minded. It's more that it just rubs people the wrong way because it's just weird.

Pixar films really do feel like Disney movies. That's why Disney bought them. Pixar has become so synonymous with Disney that if you asked a random guy on the street, he'd probably think Pixar was always with Disney. Marvel and Star Wars, I get people's apprehension with that. While I personally see one or the other working, Star Wars and Marvel don't *feel* like Disney. They feel like what they are and always have been.

 

Either way, it's not up to us. Whether people like it or not, they'll either do it or they won't, and the fans who don't agree with whatever decision is made are still going to buy the game regardless.

I was never really aware of the "closed-minded" part of the Kingdom Hearts fanbase. If anything, I would think that this would be one of the most flexible fanbases I know. But every fanbase has it's closed-minded factions, some more than others (*coughsonicfanbasecough*). I think that there is POTENTIAL for almost ANYTHING to be in any Kingdom Hearts game, it just really depends on what Square Enix wants to do, what Disney will allow them to do, and if they can do it justice or not. I thought all of the worlds we've been getting were very fitting additions to the franchise, and I certainly wouldn't mind Kingdom Hearts mixing with other things, be it in a new Dissidia game or in Disney Infinity. Believe it or not, one of my best friends finds the addition of Marvel characters in Disney Infinity as "crigeworthy" or at least their designs for it. It's a little closed minded, but he's still my friend. And that's the thing, people have different opinions and they can't all match up with ours all the time. I'm sure you've just been coming across one extreme of the fanbase over and over again, which I find is probably just a matter of poor luck, as I've been coming across a fair amount of likeminded people on my time here. But regardless, there are some people who do think that some things would not fit within Kingdom Hearts. A lot of people are saying that they don't want any Marvel or Star Wars additions to the series, and I guess I'm with them, but the difference with me is that I would prefer not to have those things added UNLESS Square wanted to do it and they could DO IT RIGHT. I tend to have faith in what Square does for Kingdom Hearts, so if they wanted to do that, I'd be with them, but until it's confirmed, I'm just going to be casually conserved in that debate, but I'm still open for the possibility of it. I mean, I could make the argument that because of Wreck-It-Ralph, a world based on that movie could be made and since Sonic was in that movie (barely), it could be used as an avenue to bring Sonic into the Kingdom Hearts universe. Of course, I already know that there are people who don't share that idea, and I know myself that it is extremely unlikely to happen, but I still hold onto it as a possibility. Because that's the greatest thing that Kingdom Hearts as a franchise has introduced to all of us, the idea that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, provided that the powers that be holds an interest in it. Disney and Final Fantasy was probably the most unlikely success to have ever happened, but if they were able to pull that off, then who's to say that there isn't a chance for anything else. Really, it's all just a matter of fair open-mindedness, with a sense of realism and rationality, and of course a whole lot of patience.

because It's going to become broken. KH has just about exhausted the most well known Disney films, there are a few left sure, but not enough to keep sustaining this franchise past KH3.

 

Lets look at something like Olympus, it's been done to death and I never want to see it again in this franchise. It could easily be replaced with marvel stuff, more specifically a character in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, The collector. For those of you who don't know your comics, he basically goes around collecting stuff, including superheroes. We could have a new coliseum where the collector invites(or kidnaps) Sora and company to his ship to fight against heartless and or superheroes he's collected around the galaxy to learn more about them.

1- You missed my point . Nomura wanted ALL AGES to be able to enjoy it .Including kids. So the nature of the plot got darker as time went by . A broader audience helps in the long run for financial success.

 

2-This problem could very well be fixed when it hits the new generation consoles, .Port Royal does not represent ALL live action movies but it did leave a bad taste in some people. That's all I'm saying ..It's the internet people LOVE to complain. Myself, I just go with the flow and roll with it.

Some things just plain don't mesh well together.

 

Yes, there's Disney and Final Fantasy... ha ha.  Who'd have thunk Mickey Mouse and Cloud Strife would ever share the same pixelated breathing space.  But it's just those two franchises--bringing in other powerhouses like Star Wars and Marvel would just make the whole thing too crowded.  For me, something like that would take me out of the experience.  Cloud, Mickey, fine.  Then--Iron Man?  Luke Skywalker too? It's honestly too overwhelming for me.  There's only so much of the crossover aspect you can milk before things feel stretched too far, too thin.

 

As for Pixar, I only support specific movies to be in KH rather than the company as a whole.  Most Pixar films feel way too down-to-earth for me to think it'll survive the KH treatment without feeling just plain awkward and tacked on.  The usual talking/living [x] slant, for me, isn't enough to think it'll fit with KH.  Most Disney films can survive it because their atmosphere works: a mermaid curious about the surface world; a street rat who's pals with a monkey and flying carpet and makes a wish with a genie to marry a princess; a lonely and abused girl who, with the help of singing critters and a fairy godmother, meets her true love at a ball.  And so on, and so forth.  Hell, I don't think all Disney films would work, either.  Fox and the Hound, Oliver and Company, and Aristocats are examples of films I think are too mundane to fit.

 

It's not about being closed-minded.  It's about legitimately not thinking certain things will fit.

Kinngdom Heart is convoluted enough do we really need to add Star Wars and Marvel logic to the mix?

I'm so against stuff like Marvel and Star Wars, I don't freaking want to go to New York and help Spiderman out or something like that, that is just a big NO for me, I want that great fantasy feeling what KH is filled with, not helping out stupid superhero's. Marvel movies and Star Wars movies have a completely different feel than all the "real" Disney movies. Why I'm also against Star Wars is because the whole freaking point of the game is that all the worlds have invisible walls around them, that is why all the citizens of every world don't know a thing about that there are different worlds out there, and what is Star Wars about? YES TRAVELING THROUGH THE UNIVERSE AND GO TO DIFFERENT PLANETS/WORLDS, you see where I'm going? If Star Wars was added to the series, then the whole point of no-one knowing about other worlds wouldn't make sense anymore.

I probably wouldn't mind Thor coming into the scene because the second Thor movie was absolutely amazing. And a lightsaber keyblade would be kick ass.

 

They might be able to include it by using the comic books just like they do with Hundred Acre Wood maybe? If they did do it, I'd only want it done THAT way. Because it'd be cool lol.

 

But I'm not YEARNING these additions either because ONE: Yes, there are LOTS and LOTS of awesome Disney movies they haven't even touched yet. Lilo and Stitch (the bullshit they did so far doesn't even count; we want the real deal.) Lady and the Tramp, Brother Bear, Fox and the Hound, Pocahontas, The Black Cauldron, ETC. What are you talking about, "there aren't many good new disney films to choose from"? The list goes on and ON like that......

 

And two, I want them to put EVERYTHING Disney has to offer before they include stuff like that. Disney came first. It'd be stupid not to include every SINGLE good Disney film first before changing all together. Why? Because I'd be INFURIATED if a good Disney movie was left out and is replaced with something I'm less interested in exploring. I'll just get the damn Thor game if I want to go to Asgard. Or any of the other Marvel games.There is NO OTHER game that would let us explore a unique Disney world like KH brings us.

They can make an ENTIRE new saga with new stuff that doesn't include Marvel, especially if they bring in Pixar to the scene...We aren't in a rush what-so-ever..This is why we feel the way we do.

Your not taking into account something simple. how would some of these worlds even be implemented to include combat? I don't see how Lady and the Tramp could be done to include combat(also, they have has a cameo in traverse town) or brother bear. Even the pixar movies you think would just make the list gigantic, can't all be done

 

-Toy story(1,2,3) Can't be done( could work as a collection world though)

-Cars(1,2) couldn't work, 1 isn't designed in a way that combat would make sense in a world based around it, and cars 2 takes place around the world so that wouldn't work.

-monsters(1,2) could work if we had the characters running around in monster suits

-up, would work

-bugs life, could work

-ratatouille, couldn't work at all

-Wall E, couldn't work due to why they are in space, it could be done as an alternate universe but I don't think the universe in Wall E has enough in it to merit being a separate universe.

-finding Nemo, maybe

-The Incredibles, Definitely could work

-Brave, Unless we play as Kairi in some worlds it's not going to work simply because of the underlying theme, and Sora donald and goofy would just contradict it.

 

so out of the 14 Pixar films, only 6 could be used as full fledged worlds, possibly 7 If we can visit worlds as Kairi
