Posted May 17, 20169 yr I think this is something we all need to see and should probably do a little soul searching and some thinking. Let's thank Cynical for talking about this because I think this is a wake up call. Watch and you'll see why.
May 17, 20169 yr Popular Post This might apply to **some *** but definitely not all of the fandom and this can also be said about any fandom..I hate generalizations.
May 17, 20169 yr Author This might apply to **some *** but definitely not all of the fandom and this can also be said about any fandom..I hate generalizations. Absolutely. I agree 100%. I just think that all of us whenever we don't get something from SQEX in regards to KH3 or anything like it, we should remember that we have it good.
May 17, 20169 yr Popular Post Eh I think this applies to pretty much all communities. Not really an eye opener, but I hope somebody gets something out of this
May 17, 20169 yr Any fandom has problems. The point of fandom is that people have a shared interest in something.
May 17, 20169 yr Flaming Lea Sums it up best. No matter what you're a fan of, or just in general, just try to be a good person??? That's really all there is to it. I hate labeling things as /toxic/ especially when it's describing a collective group. Because there's toxic things in every group of people, but there's good as well. I don't think the problem is that the fandom is toxic. I think the problem is that we as a whole need to understand others' perspectives/be mindful That's just my two cents anyways. Sorry if I come off as rude ;-; I just can't stand negativity and generalizations. I just want people to get along tbh Edited May 17, 20169 yr by Shimmy
May 17, 20169 yr It's true that all fandoms have this problem, but some fandoms have it worse then others like the ones he mentioned in the video. Based on my experience on here, I honestly don't think that this community, KH13 in particular is toxic. Edited May 17, 20169 yr by Zeldablade7
May 17, 20169 yr KH13 as a KH forum is pretty non-toxic actually. I've been on the KH subreddit and its definitely a lot worse. One thing that I've noticed is that its mostly just a handful of people who are a lot more vocal than the rest and its mostly them going out of their way to argue with people about their opinions which is stupid to argue about. tl;dr KH13 is pretty nice
May 17, 20169 yr Popular Post Cynical described it pretty well. I certainly don't think this community is toxic. Just a couple of bad eggs here and there, but you can apply that to any community.
May 17, 20169 yr Popular Post Like I said before every fanbase is going to have its share of so called toxic fans, but to say the entire fanbase is like that is a bit of an exaggeration I think. Sure, there are fans of the KH series who take things a bit overboard sometimes, but you'll see that with any other fanbase as well. A few vocal "toxic" individuals do not speak for the entirety of the community and at least in my experience, I've seen a fair share of good come out of this fanbase as well, not just bad.

Based on my experience on here, I honestly don't think that this community, KH13 in particular is toxic. I second this completely. Like I said before every fanbase is going to have its share of so called toxic fans, but to say the entire fanbase is like that is a bit of an exaggeration I think. Me too. I have seen much good. It's a pity that because of a few not so great fans, the impression of a toxic environment would be made.
May 17, 20169 yr Well, it's a youtube face cam opinion piece, so it must be naught but wisdom. Sarcasm asides, he's saying simple words with a simple message. But it's a message that flies over many people's heads, and dammit I support every last person who encourages people to be nice to each other. Positive words are such a simple thing but it honestly works magic.
May 17, 20169 yr Like practically everyone else said, every fanbase is going to have its share of toxic fans. Quite unfair for a whole community to be generalized because of this, but there are always those who complain and hate about something a company does. Ace Attorney fans hating Apollo Justice, Nintendo fans complaining about the new Paper Mario, Kingdom Hearts fans hating the 'spin-off games' (even though they are canon...) and you get the point. Like I said before every fanbase is going to have its share of so called toxic fans, but to say the entire fanbase is like that is a bit of an exaggeration I think. Unfortunately, no matter what it is, it seems that a minority speaks for the majority. Sure there are those "toxic" fans, but because of that minority, suddenly the whole community is considered toxic. And it isn't only gaming communities that suffer from this either, as we have all noticed.
May 17, 20169 yr Yeah, as Cynical said, we've actually got it very good. There's not a lot of hate speech, and we generally don't hate our own franchise as much as, say, the FF community. We love our games while for the most part recognizing their flaws, which I love. You can't say that about most other communities. I guess there's the small subsidaries that hate the side games and have only played 1 and 2, but I don't really consider them apart of the community since they don't really even give those games a chance. Once upon a time, the KH community was full of cringelords, but we've come a long way since the dark days that were 2006. I can think of so many other fanbases that are waaaaay worse in that regard nowadays. So in general, yeah, we've got it very good. I'd actually say we're one of the better ones out there.
May 17, 20169 yr Yeah, all fandoms/communities are like this. There are the good sides and the toxic sides.KH13 is not toxic. But there are places/people who are toxic fans.If you want to see toxic communities, look at the Steven Universe stuff on tumblr.Or tumblr in general.Or look at anything Star Wars related that allows comments. People are so divided and angry at either side (if people start talking prequels/Episode 7) that really anything that isn't Star Wars-core is god awful.
May 17, 20169 yr You know, I'm really proud to be a part of the Kingdom Hearts community! Over the almost five years I've been on this site, I've witnessed how the fanbase works, and I have to say, there's very little to no arguing! And that's great! The fact of the matter is that we're all a big bunch of nice people that love Kingdom Hearts, and we gather to talk about this game series we love so much, in addition to bonding over other things, such as anime, books, other video games, etc! That's why I love this community so much! Everyone's so nice, and if someone has a different opinion, they state it respectfully! So yeah, there may be some members who aren't good, but hey, every community has its bad apples, ya know? We're just lucky that the bad apples pale in comparison to all the good ones, ya know? Even with some small things the fanbase argues upon, I'm happy to be a part of this wonderful community nonetheless! Edited May 17, 20169 yr by The Transcendent Key

May 17, 20169 yr You forgot to add the Sonic fanbase. I'd rather not talk about the Sonic fanbase, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, fox!
May 17, 20169 yr Compared to the Final Fantasy fanbase Kingdom Hearts is practically non-toxic. Final Fantasy fans hate each other and hate the games as well. Some people hate everything after IX, some everything after XII, and some everything after VI. They insult each other for liking certain games. Just go look at IGN's ranking of FF games to see how toxic everyone is. A few Kingdom Hearts fans hate the Osaka team games (BBS, 3DS, etc) but mostly everyone is optimistic.
May 17, 20169 yr Well the general consensus is that every community has its bad apples, which is true. But the problem with the KH community is those people that complain about Square Enix not showcasing content that they never promised. Those people basically set themselves up for disappointment by putting themselves into the mindset that Square has "promised" a new trailer, or "promised" a release date and there ends up being nothing of the sort, which in turn leads to whining and complaining. It's fine to complain occasionally, don't get me wrong, but it's different when the thing you complain about isn't even present. Having said that overall the KH community is pretty good compared to other fandoms. Let's take Yu-Gi-Oh as an example. As Cynical said, it's different when there's a multiplayer aspect to the fandom in question because there's the social interaction of players. Every time a new broken summoning mechanic is introduced, there will always be those players who say "the game is dead now." This was said about Synchros when they debuted. Then Xyz went through the same thing. Now we have Pendulums which people are complaining about. What will happen when the next summoning mechanic is introduced? Most likely the same thing. Bare in mind, I'm not saying the YGO community is bad. It's actually pretty decent. But I'm giving an example of minor toxicity in a given group that I know well. Overall message: just be a good person. Don't bash, don't bully, and respect the diversity around you. Debate is fine as long as it's civil. Peace! Edited May 17, 20169 yr by Yuya Sakaki
May 17, 20169 yr Just like Flaming Lea and others said, this may apply to some fans, but definitely not to the whole community. I hate that kind of generalization, makes it sound like we all are toxic and have to do something against that. I'm just a guy who loves Kingdom Hearts, the way other people act isn't my problem and I don't care. Every fanbase, every kind of community has its toxic people, but I bet the most part of it are just normal fans. KH13 is the best example for that.
May 17, 20169 yr Pshh, I don't even need to watch that to know what he's trying to say. In all honesty, it isn't KH13 itself that's the problem, really. In fact, my friends on here never argued about anything KH-related around me. The REAL problem is the people who are too prideful in their opinions regarding any little thing to succumb to dealing with others having a different opinion. I'm sitting here, watching and hearing people discuss good things. But when opinion comes into play, hatred and anger kicks in really badly. Kingdom Hearts is supposed to be a fun series to enjoy (just like everything else the media offers), not an all-out debate between adults! If you ever see others acting so childish about Kingdom Hearts by arguing so negatively, tell them to get their act together. And not just Kingdom Hearts, but games and movies and shows alike. People wage war even over favorite characters and simple matters like that. These negative vibes from the internet are the reason why I avoid most social media websites in general. KH13 is an exception, because in here, I won't be eternally judged by the way I feel or act; I have friends on here, and even those who aren't yet my friend, who I can relate to in more than just one place in my interests. I don't decide if I am a good friend, but if you ask pretty much any of my close friends, they will probably say I'm (at least) a nice guy. Sure, I argue at times, but we all do at some point, don't we? I've talked so much, I think that's enough from me. Rock on!
I think this is something we all need to see and should probably do a little soul searching and some thinking. Let's thank Cynical for talking about this because I think this is a wake up call. Watch and you'll see why.
