I'm so hyped with this new 2.8 trailer. 0.2 Birth by Sleep clearly stood out for me, since Aqua is my favourite character. Terra also appears in it. But, c'mon. He can't be the real Terra. Aqua previously mentioned that darkness affects people's memories. When she sees Terra, she's in the staircase of the castle leading to the ballroom. If you remember, Aqua did see Terra when she arrived at Castle of Dreams in Birth by Sleep. So, seeing him again is probably just her mind playing tricks on her. What do you think?

Yeah I bet it has to do with her memories. Why else would she say "not even memories are safe here"?

Firstly, what a trailer. Every single detail was perfect and I honestly have no complaints; however one detail in particular made me think of this theory. Has Aqua become delusional?

 

Summary- Aqua has been trapped in the RoD after the events of BBS and at the end of the snippet of 0.2 in the trailer; we hear Terra call her name and walk down the stairs towards her. However; is there more than meets the eye and is he in fact imaginary?

 

If people without freaking out listen to trailer again; Aqua talks about another night under the stars with her best friends then all of a sudden Terra appears. I do not think this is a coincidence. When we last saw Aqua in the RoD she was in fact close to giving up when both Ventus and Terra's keyblades came to her aid. I think the Terra we saw is a manifestation from Aqua's mind. I think that when she is in a dire situation; she imagines her friends being there to gove her strength. I wouldn't even rule out a Ventus appearance either.

 

If this is this the case then this makes Aqua's isolation even heartbreaking and could result in her thinking her meeting with Mickey is imaginary and perhaps explain why she didn't leave with him

It would also be a good ' insurance' bail out for Mickey. If she has ended up like this; it gives Mickey a valid reason why he hasn't mentioned it before or why she stayed behind. A dark game in the Realm of Darkness; why not?

All I know, is that if it ends with Aqua collapsing to her knees and crying hysterically, waiting for someone to help her, I might get a lil emotional myself... jus saying lol

I don't think she's delusional. Remember what Ansem SoD said, "Dreams hold our memories. Sleep holds our dreams. And darkness it holds our sleep". When a world falls to darkness it and it's inhabitants fall into a state of sleep. It's possible that because Aqua has memories attached to that world they are manifesting themselves. Terra's appearance is almost identical to when he met Aqua at the ball. We see the same thing with Sora, the deeper he sunk into darkness the more of his memories he was able to access.

Like most already said, RoD messing with her mind. The question would be if this will be a good thing or not.

I actually could see that because Aqua did say memories aren't safe from darkness so maybe this is just an illusion caused by darkness playing with her memory. However, if it turns out to be real, then this throws a major curveball into how Sora saves them.

She basicly MADE Castle Oblivion, ofcourse are the memories not safe!

Poor Aqua...she's so strong not to have gone totally crazy. 

TBH, I don't even care that the Terra we see is most likely just a memory/illusion. It's still TERRA! With the new render! And who knows, if it's a delusion, that means new lines!

I find it so interesting that Aqua says memories aren't safe from the darkness, while Ansem's quote implies that memories come and are associated with the darkness (Darkness->Sleep->Dreams->Memory). It says something about her prejudice towards darkness that she concludes the darkness is a danger to her memories instead of accepting that memories are a part of the darkness (which may in fact be further evidenced by the fact that Naminé describes memories as being part of chains, which while meant to secure things can also be meant to imprison, a negative term which can easily be applied to darkness, and in fact applies to Aqua's situation quite well.)

 

The quote also brings up questions in regards to Naminé, someone who could manipulate memories as she saw fit, and her possible powers over darkness and how that mixes with her coming from someone whose heart is pure light, but that's another post for another time . 

Here's my theory: she's given something to someone in order to relive the memories. This is actually the same scene we see in Birth By Sleep, but Aqua is actually reliving it. I cannot think what she gave in exchange or who she gave it to, but it looks as she was desperate to do so. This also makes perfect sense as it was the premise from Castle Oblivion that Marluxia gave to Sora (to lose in order to claim anew, and to claim anew in order to lose), and Mickey, who meets Aqua shortly after, goes to Castle Oblivion.

I also agree that chances are that wasn't the real Terra, but it might not be Aqua losing her mind that made him appear. Remember in DDD we saw Mickey, Donald and Goofy in Country of the Musketeers even though they were really with Yen Sid in Mysterious Tower at the time? And we saw Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio's world even though he was probably in Disney Castle at the time. They appeared there because those worlds dreamed them into being there. I know Castle of Dreams is stuck in the Realm of Darkness rather than the Dream World but perhaps it was still able to create a manifestation of Terra in a similar way. It might have tapped into Aqua's memories of when she visited that world before it fell into the darkness or something. Just a thought.

The 0.2 portion of the trailer made me really hyped but also sad, but I've been looking forward to it since the idea of having a BBS volume 2. Honestly, I have a feeling this game will be very dark.
