iirc yes it was different. he was going through the sleeping worlds and waking them as training to learn now to use the power of waking

The whole point of the 3D test was to get the power of waking I think I just didn't call it that

If we follow Missing Link lore the Power of Waking will be completely retconned... again

The Power of Waking is likely just nothing more than using and manifesting the mental energy and that's why Sora got kicked out of his universe

Darkness and Light got retconned to with the astral plane

They pretty much introduced "Hey there's this realm where concepts of the universe are getting created by mental energy and someone or something there plays god"

and MoM probably wants to takeover the power of that realm so he can delete the idea of darkness and light existing

it's pretty much Kingdom Hearts Refantazio

and coincidentally it also works with the "is any of this for real or not" line that Nomura throws constantly at us. The "Don't assume your dreams are just fantasy. If you can imagine a world, believe in it...and dive in." line has also an entirely different meaning now

it's also why darkness appeared in quadratum

the KH universe characters manifested darkness in quadratum because they brought the heartless there through mental energy and fantasy because they believe that darkness exists

it also explains why the true darknesses in KH can't be erased
