Nomura is still deciding on the Secret Movie and ending for Kingdom Hearts III, which will finish the fight with Xehanort but not end the series

In the latest issues of Famitsu Weekly and Dengeki PlayStation, Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Kingdom Hearts series has talked about the plot for Kingdom Hearts III. Nomura confirmed he is still deciding on the ending and Secret Movie for the game, and also re-confirmed that Kingdom Hearts III will finish the fight with Xehanort, but will not be the end of the Kingdom Hearts series.

Thanks to @htmk73 for the interview summary, and to goldpanner for translating this interview summary into English, Nomura's comments can be read below:

[Asked about the game scenario]

Nomura: Since KH3 was to settle the final confrontation with Xehanort the general framework was already decided, but it's not the end of the KH series.

Nomura: I'm worrying over how to bring KH3 to a close. I have already decided on my plans for the directions of the characters fans care about. I don't want to make something too short that only settles the main dispute.

[Asked about the development stage]

Nomura: It's moving along steadily. I'm currently deciding what to do about the ending and secret movies and such.

What do you expect for the end of Kingdom Hearts III, and the future of the series? Will the game's Secret Movie provide a hint at a future title, or will it just bring more closure to the game's plot? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Maybe the Secret Ending will be hinting some new information about the sixth apprentice and his legacy.

So no ending decided yet ? I thought he said in 2014 that he'd finished writing KHIII plot.

It did say that he was still deciding the ending. It's possible that he wrote a lot of ways to end KH3, and is deciding which one would be best,

Nomura , you'd better find the secret ending soon ...

OMG, I can't wait to see what happens in the end. I'm hoping for something like the KH2FM Secret Ending. A battle scene with completely new characters that is going to make people ask: "WHAT IS GOING ON!?"

Anything short of MX either ending up trapped in some "torment" of his own or dying a completely broken man will make me finally rage-quit the series for good.

A plot is basically a synopsis of a series main points. How much it's fleshed out will vary.

Mickey sending them a letter please no .

I'm just wondering if KH3 is not the end, how far they'll create KH series? :3

I am hoping for some hints of the new enemy during the journey of KHIII, secret boss related to that enemy and a secret ending having more information about that enemy to let people start guessing.

Come on, we all know that KHIII won't be the end of KH series so we obviously gonna face a new enemy after Xehanort's saga and such idea will be brilliant to make in KHIII.

Hopefully the secret ending gives us a glimpse of the villain in the next Saga.

He better not make alternative secret endings or alternative endings as DLC like FFXIII-2....

Yep, it's time to move on, especially since there's now nothing left to like about MX (At least Leonard Nimoy gave him cool lines and screentime.).
