I think you absolutely don't have the right to perform a religious ceremony on the deceased without their family's permission.

My grandma died from medical malpractice, and now the doctor doing it wants to have some sort of Catholic ritual to "get her soul out of purgatory". First off, my entire family is atheist except for my grandma, who WAS NOT Catholic. The fact that they think she couldn't have gone to Heaven is extremely offensive to us, and despite our protests, they're still going to do the ceremony. Whether she is alive or not, we're completely offended and she wouldn't have wanted it performed either, since she didn't even believe in purgatory.

The church's defense is that they have the right to perform any religious ceremony they want since her body won't be there, so we can't object. IMO they absolutely cannot do this and you can't do anything religious to a deceased person if their family doesn't agree to it. Especially not if the person wouldn't have wanted it anyway.

Technically, they're not actually doing anything to her.  They won't be using her body, and you say none of you believe(d) in purgatory.  Why not let them have their fun with their little ceremony and focus on the thing you actually wanna do for her funeral?  You don't have to be present for what they're doing, right? (And if you do, just refuse to go.)

But if you're really hurt about this, try yelling at the court about it.  Then again, since the court tends to stick up for the church (so much for the state and the church not being one and the same anymore...), I can't guarantee you'd win.

I still don't think they should be allowed to though. It seems like the guy is just doing it so he won't seem guilty, and we weren't even invited. We just got a card in the mail saying "we're doing this thing" and it didn't include a church name or anything. Luckily I was able to find his wife's blog and determine what church they attend, so I know where it's being held, but it's just really unfair imo to do something religious to a person who didn't believe in your religion.

I wish we could but not only would we probably lose, they told us about it too late. It's in a few days, so we don't have time to stop it.

Damn.  Well, legally it looks like they can get away with it, but it seems a little sleazy they're doing a ceremony without having consulted with you first, even though it's your grandma('s soul) they're working with.  It's weird there's no law that prevents things like this from happening.  Like, a right to refuse religious stuff happening to you without permission.  It's like swiping your baby from your arms to get it baptized, then handing it back to you.

I do agree, if there isn't already, there should be laws against forcibly baptizing babies. I am somewhat sure that Catholics are supposed to pray for souls to get out of purgatory and into heaven. But I am not sure what EXACTLY they are doing this time. And I do agree with Think Pink on it probably being due to his conscious.Though if you make laws against "religious ceremonies" directed at people without consulting anyone first. You'll probably upset all the churches (or any religious place) who decide to join together in prayer (basically a ceremony) for public figures. (If prayer ACTUALLY has effects, no wonder why some celebs get so messed up... I know there are tons of other reasons, but I said if.) And also if organized prayer towards people who didn't agree to it is banned, now all those people praying against the next big "terrorist" (when ever a figure head for it comes around again), will now have to pay fines or what ever the charge is. (probably leading to massive protests) This could be seen as an infringement of religious freedom.  Though what is religious freedom? Oh, it is just a term people use for "freedom of religion" and "freedom of belief", not some all powerful thing that lets them do what ever they want. Anyways my point is I honestly think that it would cause a major uproar to ban ceremonies (which a church wide prayer should fall under) aimed towards people who didn't agree to it.A counter law I would propose would be a ban on religious ceremonies on all individuals who aren't or never were part of your religious group and aren't a public figure. (of course consent would be an exclusion) Why did I leave in public figures? Well, they are the sacrifice to appease the masses. Also, public figures already have less protection from defamation. Where they basically have to prove the slander was a baseless claim made haphazardly or was made with malice as the primary intent to take legal action.

Yeah, if an individual isn't part of their church/religion I think they should respect it when someone says no.  I don't have anything against prayer, even organized prayer, but I thought Think Pink said they were gonna do some kind of actual ceremony (probably more to it than simple praying) without their consent.  It's not their grandmother they're doing it for, and they refuse to stop even when they said no.  I'd think Think Pink would get to have a say in what they do to her own deceased family member.  I figure she and her family would get the final say in what happens, not the church, since they're not even a part of said church.

Just perform your own ceremony to turn all of the pastor's deceased relative's souls gay.

We didn't actually get to speak with the pastor. I'm not sure if he's even aware that we don't want it to happen. And I would never give that pastor's relatives a damn blessing after what he's going to do.

I just want this guy to be held accountable for what he's done, and I definitely don't want him holding some ceremony because he thinks my grandma wasn't good enough for Heaven.

I do agree that the relatives should have a final say, and if you weren't part of the church with what I purposed, they would have to by law ask you for your consent. (unless if you are famous...) And I was trying to say that unless if you word any laws against ceremonies very precisely, you will make littler things illegal that could cause an uproar. But yeah, there is a lot of stuff wrong with our society, and a lot of false entitlements people think they have. (especially with religion)

As far as I know most Catholics believe that most Catholics go to purgatory before heaven. (so possibly he would think that his own family isn't good enough for heaven) Since it is basically supposed to be a place to be cleansed and made clean for heaven, I wouldn't doubt that it is akin to a forced bath for how ever long it takes to get perfectly clean. And I guess they pray and do ceremonies for people they think are in there, because they hope it will make sure they are purified and get into heaven sooner.BUT yes I do agree that it is probably because he is feeling guilty...(unless he is a REALLY devout Catholic)

The Snow Queen has more character development than FROZEN does.

You are amazing. You can have TWO internets :D

I think all the hatred towards Christianity is stupid, and people should stop blaming us when the most radical christians one can think of is Westboro Baptist. I also think other religions with radical entities should experience the same discrimination as us, as laws now have considered a lot of what we say to be hate speech, especially if we claim our faith is the only way.

Not like islam doesn't breach they are the light, or any other religion claims they have the only way to salvation.

*sighs*

You say that as if christianity is the only religion that's ever bashed on, hated or discriminated against.Religious beliefs are made fun of/insulted left and right, I don't see why you think Christianity is the only belief that's insulted because fo a handful or radicals

I'm not saying we're the only one.But.1.) That "handful of radicals" number over a million.2.) Only the ten commandments and the bible is being attacks in public; where have you seen the Quran being denounced, insulted, or hated?3.) Some schools/teachers don't allow crosses/Christian clothing but still allow Muslims wear their Berman. A teacher recently took away candy canes for having christian symbolism. From elementary school children.4.) The president had a secular Christmas while the White House celebrated the Muslim religious holiday of Ramadan.5.) Muslims were allowed to block the streets of NEw York to pray but Christians are arrested for preaching and giving out free Bibles. We aren't the only ones, but when the laws add Evangelical Christianity to the list of Hate Groups and leave out such entities as the Muslim Brotherhood, who burned down churches in Egypt, you can't help but feel as if most of the hatred and discrimination is pushed onto you by a seal proclaimed "peaceful" religion. When was the last time you heard of a mosque getting burns down?

I'm certain I've even come across websites pretty much dedicated to insulting the Quran.(Note: I'm well aware that similar sites might exist for other holy books as well)http://articles.latimes.com/2012/aug/27/world/la-fg-pentagon-koran-20120828http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hiqhizasRIx4id4gcrj5d09Gg_5g3.) And wishing someone a Happy Ramadan/ Happy Hanukkah / Merry Christmas" does not automatically mean you celebrate any of those5.) Now I can agree with points 3 and 5, those do seem quite unfair.I am certain I can find evidence to answer similar questions about other religions too to prove to you that Christianity is not alone in being bashed on or being discriminated against

SNK > KLK

I love both but SNK takes the cake.

That moment when you want to watch a movie, and you can't.

And people overuse gifs of that movie throughout the Internet.

And you start to hate that movie.

And you don't even wanna watch it anymore.

Someone is going to fvck up and start a robot apocalypse.

Many people are dumbasses.

It bugs me when people say the title of a game or book or whatever in all caps. Like, what effect does that have on the game/show/book, anyway? Is it angry? Does it want attention? Just write it normally, it looks a lot better.

Umm... What exactly do these mean? Just curious...

Not sure if this opinion is unpopular, but I find it pretty ridiculous that kids seem to be expected to know exactly where they want to go to college and what they want their job for the rest of their life to be at sixteen (more or less). You still have so much more maturing to do at that age, and lots can change both on a personal level and with the outside world. The "you have to have your entire future planned out" idealogy just puts a lot of stress on you. Sure, there are some that have a plan (sometimes really specific), but in my experience the majority are not sure. I personally don't have any sort of plan besides "I'm going to some college and will probably do something with writing or computers". :/
