So I'm supposed to ask 10 people for my World Religions project but I really don't wanna go around and find like 10 random people to ask, so could you guys answer this? Basically, were you born into a religion? If so, which? Have your religious beliefs changed since then?

 

(example: I was raised Christian and I'm now an atheist. Please specify which religion you were first if you changed religions!!)

 

edit: also this is just a survey, I really don't want this cluttered with people arguing and trying to change each other's religious views, so PLEASE don't do that!!

My parents are both Jehovahs Witnesses, and they raised me as one. I'd say that I started to become cynical about the religion when I was around 12 years old or so. By the time I was 14, I still believed in God, but I did not actually follow any religion. Around the time I turned 16, and through until now (and I'm presuming this will be my life long belief), I have completed my transition into an atheist.

I was raised Catholic, became an "atheist" for a while, switched back.

I was raised a christian and still am one and I am an adult with free will to believe what I want ..I believe based on my own personal experiences and what i've seen for myself .

My preschool was at a christian church, and when I played basketball in elementary it was in a church league. My brother was in the same boat. My parents are both Christian. Naturally, we're both Agnostic/Atheist now.

 

I don't know exactly when I stopped believing in god. All I know is that at this point I just can't bring myself to believe there is a god, and even if there is I doubt it actually cares for people at all.

I was born Jewish/Christian and I am currently Agnostic. I believe there is a God, but I don't have any religions that fit my belief.

I was raised Baptist, but I'm not really as spiritual about it as my dad's family is. I don't associate myself with being an atheist or agnostic, but there's some things that do bother me about religion in general.

I was born into a Catholic family. I'm still Catholic and went to a Catholic high school. I would be lying if I said my beliefs were strong, but I more-so see the teachings of Catholicism as a set of values on how to live your life. Rather than a history book. 

Raised and baptized as a Methodist, and have become agnostic/atheist. I don't completely discount the possibility of a god existing since we know so little about the universe, but I disagree with the ideas of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. But I won't go into detail about that.

My parents are and aren't very religious, but I guess you can get away with that as a Methodist. I've noticed them reconsidering their beliefs ever since I told them I was atheist.

I was born into a Baptist Christian  family. I still am one to this day. My faith is as strong now as it ever was.

I was raised as a Christian/Catholic. I still believe in god, although, i don't believe some of the things that the bible/church claims to be true, like the Adam and Eve story and that we're supposed to be the only race in the universe.

Raised as christian and I've been an atheist for about a year

My parents follow Christianity, but they don't actively practice it.  On rare occasions they'll make references about God, but that's about it for them.  As such, I've never really been a religious person myself.  I've never been taught about any religion; I guess at some point growing up I recognized the term "God" and associated it as something above all else.  It wasn't until about 2 years ago I legitimately started questioning things, which is natural for someone my age.  Ultimately, after having a really deep conversation with someone I consider the most influential person in my life as of so far about a year ago, I've decided on being an agnostic theist.  That being said, I also believe both our existence and God's is irrelevant, for countless reasons.  All in all, I'm happy on what I believe, it's kind of scary to think about, but we're all here together, so let's try not to firetruck things up.

I was nothing, I was made a Catholic when I was 5 because no school would take me unless I had a religion (I live in Ireland and back when I was little the bulk of the schools were Catholic-only or Protestant-only) depending on what part of the city you lived in.  So I was taught Catholic ideology and all in school where it was compulsory up until GCSE (you could drop it at A-level, but you still had to attend religious occasions and yearly masses unless you were another religion(the only ones who didn't partake were two Muslims) and if you were "atheist" you had to go regardless).  But I don't really believe or have faith in it.  

 

On discussing it with others I've been told I sound like an "Apatheist"

Born Christian and I still am but I'm different because I believe if you try to line up Science and the Bible you'll find something. Like I belive that God made the Earth in 6 days just not a 24 hour Day because he as a omnipotent being he should have temporal control and that Adam and Eve had there sons, Kain and Able, who left the garden of Eden to firetruck cavewomen then created a city. I don't believe Evolutionists or die hard Religionists are right. I just have this deep feeling inside that there is something missing like a puzzle piece and we're all overlooking :smile:

People have reasons to believe in different gods, I believe in myself, and others.

 

If something good or bad happened, either I made it happen, or someone/something else made it happen.

 

Everything happens in this world with effort. If you want something to happen, work hard for it.

 

Truth to be told, I am an atheist, but I don't go around bashing other people's beliefs.

My mom was raised Catholic and she hated going to church.  She married my dad right out of college (the day after they graduated) and they never went to church, and that didn't change when I was born.  I never got baptised or anything.  I'm agnostic.  I still celebrate Christmas and Easter, but more so because it's what my family does.  Plus, I'm turning down gifts.

I was born as a christian and I am still one . I don't believe in "faith" ,but I do "believe in religion". I am not sure if there's a God somewhere , some people on Earth say ,for example : "God bless us and thank God ,  we are all fine" . But I don't think people,let's say, in Africa that starve, are like that.

I was born into Catholicism and basically followed that devoutly until I was 14. As life got shittier and shittier I started to develop agnostic beliefs and was even a total atheist at one point. However, once my life started turning around I started to go back to the church. Pope Francis played a big part in it too as he showed me that the Church is capable of moving in a positive direction. 

 

Right now I am more of an Agnostic-Catholic/Deist. I believe in God and the teachings of Jesus, but I'm not sure of how they play a roll in the universe. I feel like, for whatever reason, God doesn't play an active roll in our lives for whatever reason he has, be it good or bad. Assuming God truly is all knowing and all powerful, he would have solved all the world's problems himself if it were part of his plan. 

 

I also don't believe the Bible should be taken literally, especially Old Testament stories that are as unrealistic as Greek Myth. If the Church should do anything, they should update the Bible so it doesn't conflict with over two thousand years of scientific, social, economic, and overall progress like it does now. 

 

Here are my beliefs in a nutshell. 

 

- If God truly is a being of benevolence and love, Hell would not exist. Eternal damnation is contradictory to the belief that God is forgiving and loving, 

 

- If God is truly all powerful and all knowing, as well as benevolent and loving, then clearly he doesn't solve the world's problems for a much greater purpose. 

 

-Jesus probably wasn't the son of God, however he's the closest thing we have. The idea of Gods interacting with mortals in such a way is more common with Greco-Roman and Pagan religions. I feel the concept of Christ being the son of God was merely a fabrication of the church to make him more similar to Pagan heroes and thus, attract more converts. 

 

- Because of how infinite and vast the universe is, it's likely Earth and Humanity is but one of many of Gods living and non living creations.
