So, after reviewing the secret ending to Dream Drop Distance, Donald and Goofy are alone because all of the keyblade wielders are doing something (Lea going back to Radiant Garden, Sora and Riku running errands). Goofy wonders if they will ever "do something important". I interpreted this as foreshadowing that they will both wield a keyblade in KH3.

 

What are your thoughts on this? Is it a good idea for these two to ditch their respective weapons for keyblades or would it cause too much of a fan uproar because they were not using their traditional weapons? Will this mean that we will finally be able to play as Donald and Goofy as was intended since KH1?

I took the line as a nod to how they haven't been prominent in most of the games lately, because the plot dictates they wouldn't have a big role: BBS is a prequel, Days is Roxas's story, coded is Data Sora's, and DDD is a test for Sora and Riku.

 

Donald and Goofy bring plenty to the plate already.  They don't need keyblades to be important.

I doubt they would do this unless they do it for the keyblade war and that is it.

 

I have mixed feeling about this.

I think it's better if Mickey is the only Disney character to wield a Keyblade. It makes him more special. I mean, I know he's already a king and all, but wielding a Keyblade makes him like a bridge between the classic Disney characters and original KH characters. Plus, he's friggin' Yoda with that thing.

I think that they should get keyblades. They surely deserve it way more than Lea does.

I love Donald and Goofy ever since I was a child but no......this would be horrible

 

Heck at this point a Final Fantasy character with a keyblade would be a better choice and make much more sense

 

Also,Donald is a Mage and Goofy is a knight so why change their classes to keyblade warriors all of a sudden they did a great job with them

 

Just because a character doesn't have a keyblade doesn't mean they're not important

 

Heck if anything Donald and Goofy did a better job than Terra,Aqua and Ven combined

For me at least, it's really hard to imagine Donald and Goofy with Keyblades.  I mean, it'd be pretty cool, but then they'd look kind of strange to me with those weapons.  I much prefer for them to stay with their designated shield and staff weapons, I just think that it fits with their look.  But well, there's always a possibility that they can wield Keyblades.  Only Nomura can decide on this one. Whatever he chooses, I shall respect, but I prefer Donald and Goofy stay with their classic weapons.

If they were to get Keyblades they must pass this test:

 

Donald must learn how to sing properly and Goofy must get a masters degree in college.

They already have Keyblades- as members of the True Organization XIII they have many secrets that have yet to be revealed

Well, they did help save the world twice without keyblades, so they probably don't actually need them to be any more awesome than they already are. I mean, it's not like the keyblade is really helping anyone outside of Sora as far as getting the upper hand goes.

They don't need Keyblades but it wouldn't hurt. But they better have a major role in the fight as they did in KH1. More than anyone else except Sora. And maybe Riku. But that's it.

You're wrong. That line had nothing to do with them getting Keyblades. It means nothing more than exactly what it said. That they wanted to be more important and brought into more fights. That's it.

People say it's more of a self jab about how they've been pretty inactive recently. It's Nomura logic in my opinion considering they were hopping between worlds, ridding them of darkness not even a month prior. 

 

Then again Goofy is a dog so...must have felt like a year to the poor guy.
