Nothing quite like seeing your name in a video from one of your favorite Youtubers... Even if it's just something scrolling through all of their subscribers.

Courage The Cowardly Dog is the best! Lol, such a funny show! A precious gem from my childhood! :')
Amber Cole repliedI LOVE THAT SHOW! remember when it was the scariest show of your childhood?
The Transcendent Key replied@Amber. Lol, actually, I never found it scary. Sure, it had creepy monsters, but Courage's screams and funny overreactions made me laugh too often to be scared! Lol.

@Xiro. Lol, yeah. X3

"Let us finish this, at the fated place! Where your seven lights and my thirteen darknesses shall join together!" Gah, I swear, this is one of the quotes that has got me the most hyped for Kingdom Hearts III! X_X
The Transcendent Key repliedHaha, that was funny! Lol, yeah, a little perviness can't hurt. X3
Yuya Sakaki replied@Pandy: Was that ABSOLUTELY necessary?

Yes Golden, that quote gives me goosebumps.
The Transcendent Key repliedHopefully we'll get some juicy new details on Kingdom Hearts III pretty soon!

Started watching Fate/Zero today, and I've already recognized three of my favorite voice actors! Liam O'Brien voices Karya, Johnny Yong Bosch voices Ryunosuke and Grant George voices Lancer! I fanboyed like frickin crazy!!!
The Transcendent Key repliedHow right you are!
And plot wise, damn, this anime is really interesting! All of this talk about the Holy Grail War is intense, and I didn't expect King Arthur to be a woman! That was a pleasant surprise for me! Also, I loved Karya's Berserker. Frickin awesome! And, of course, Gilgamesh shone with splendid magnificence!
The Transcendent Key repliedI KNEW HIS VOICE ALSO SOUNDED FAMILIAR! YET ANOTHER AWESOME VOICE ACTOR! And yes, it was me who talked to you about Xillia, lol.

If you look at scoot games.com right now you see a hat on the floor. I have a feeling that could mean the FNAF series is PROBABLY going to come to an end sadly.
Dracozombie repliedIt's sad, but I'm actually glad it's ending. The series will die with dignity instead of being milked to the point of becoming meaningless. It already happened with Slenderman...
Dracozombie repliedYeah, it's best to keep it in a nice neat package. Three's a magic number. Besides, what the official games won't provide anymore, the fanbase will.

Can someone explain how exactly overhype kills something? Like, am I supposed to complain if a thing I enjoy gets shared with many other people, or if something I don't care about nonetheless makes others happy? Because the more I hear complaints about something being "overrated," the less I understand the reasoning behind it.
Dave repliedI think a lot of it has to do with people desperately trying to distinguish themselves from "the norm." We've developed this mentality that we have to constantly distinguish ourselves as unique, and so if a bunch of people like something, then there's almost an obligation to act as though you're too cool for school, if only to satisfy some base sense of self image.
Dracozombie repliedI'm starting to think there really is some special snowflake mentality that goes behind getting annoyed at overexposure. Overhype just means there will be more people I get to talk to about something I care about. If not, it just becomes background noise. So Is see another Frozen poster. Mmkay, and?
Nero Kunivas repliedYeah, pretty much what Dave said.
I've become sick of hearing: "Overrated" by now.
HeyMouseSayCheese repliedWell overhype and overrated are really different animals altogether, but the idea is that once something starts getting more popular, you get a lot of people jumping on the bandwagon just because it's a new fad and that tends to annoy people who have been legitimate fans for a long time. The "legit" fans can certainly take it too personal and alienate any actual new fans though, and that does sadly happen a lot.
Dracozombie replied"Overhyped" and "overrated" tend to go hand in hand: they're buzzwords towards something not being worthy of the popularity it gets. I say if something gets that popular, it had to have done SOMETHING right. Yes, even things like Twilight. But if something becomes a fad, so what? The "true" fans stick around and the ones just following the crowd will disappear eventually, so why complain one way or the other?
Hargleblargleboo repliedGood question. I guess it's because overhyping something can "kill" what the original work was all about. Take Disney's 'Frozen' into account. It was originally an adaptation about the lives of two sisters and their struggles with their relationship. However, in the end, they learn to be there for each other and to love one another. A twist to the typical Disney formula. But nobody besides the animation community and the critics cared about the story, really. All they...
Javelin434 replied"Overhyped" kills something because viewers will have an extraordinarily high standard that they want to see, and then becomes disappointed once it becomes a reality and their fantasies aren't realized.
Javelin434 replied"Overrated" is where people place undue praise for something many consider "mundane."
Dracozombie repliedBut what's "undue praise"? Who gets to judge that? And if you couldn't keep your expectations in check, is that really the fans' problem? If someone gets on your case because you don't like something, well, that's a shame. Let them throw their hissy fits while you carry on with your day.
I'm... pretty sure my enjoyment of Frozen came from much more than the songs.
Dracozombie repliedThe internet is a wonderful, magical place of hatred. But seriously, if everyone gives you crap for (dis)liking something, it might be time to reconsider the folks you hang out with.
Hargleblargleboo replied@Draco
It should. But the majority of people didn't seem to care. So then, 'Frozen' became about that and its merchandising. It's a real shame, because it was a great film until its meaning and heart got destroyed. And that's my take on hype killing something. But, who knows? Remember when 'The Lion King' was all over the place with all of its merchandising? Nowadays, it's a classic that most can't go without. Maybe the same will happen with 'Froze...
Hargleblargleboo repliedYeah.
The web is such a pleasant hell hole with some pleasant jackass'.
Dracozombie repliedHaha. Freakin' internet peoples.
Frozen marketing has mainly become background noise to me, to the point where I don't think my brain even links all that merchandise with the film itself. I'd say not all the merchandise in the world can kill something's heart if you legitimately enjoyed it.
Dracozombie repliedAnd the point with The Lion King? EXACTLY. In fact (and this might be where you got it from), the Nostalgia Critic uses that example in a recent video: http://channelawesome.com/can-hype-kill-a-good-film-nostalgia-critic-editorial/
I dunno, maybe I'm just able to tune out overexposure better than others, or I've just gotten good at keeping my expectations in check.
Shulk repliedI've got the same perspective as Firaga. It's just annoying hearing people not shut up about something and try to shove it down my throat, especially if it's something I don't care for in the first place. "OH YOU NEED TO WATCH ATTACK ON TITAN" "YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT IT WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU" stuff like that. It just gets frustrating. Really frustrating.
(And yes, Attack on Titan is a perfect example. I'm dreading the time season 2 starts a...
Dracozombie repliedWell, then, those are internet babies that are quite easy to tune out when you get the hang of it (and if it's as big a problem as you say, theoretically you should have plenty of practice by now). I like what I like and dislike what I dislike. If what I like happens to be shared by many people, awesome. If something I dislike (or am apathetic towards) is widely spread, welp, that's more noise to tune out. If it's harmless and makes a lot of people happy, then whatever.
Dracozombie repliedIf it becomes a problem, then pack your bags and head for more tolerant waters. Some communities are less crap than others.
Dracozombie repliedWhat's more important, then? The ability to speak your mind, or keeping quiet to avoid unnecessary annoyance? Clearly you're in situations where you can't have it both ways. People aren't going to stop liking things and they're not going to stop sharing what they enjoy, obnoxiously or no. So, something's gonna have to adjust.
Dracozombie repliedThen don't change. If you don't like it, that's a shame, they'll just have to learn to deal with it. On the flip side, you don't have to feel like you're just caving if give it a shot and wind up liking it. But one thing that might help to make it the annoyance more tolerable is that they're only sharing it with you because they think you'll have fun with it.
Unless they're bandwagon posers. Then firetruck 'em. But I'm able to ignore the shallo...
Shulk repliedThe problem is they don't share it with me because they know I'd like it. They do it just because... Well, I don't even know what their motives usually are. Going back to the Attack on Titan example, the people who told me to watch it didn't know anything about my personal interest. They just wanted more people to like what they liked, even though I said multiple times that from what I'd seen of pictures and clips, it didn't look remotely interesting. They just come of...
Dracozombie repliedOne way to offset fanboy hoards is to just say it looks interesting, but that kind of show isn't your thing. You'll demonstrate it's a matter of personal taste over an assessment of the show (stupid as it is, many people DO have a kneejerk reaction to someone else not liking something as an issue with their own tastes). Keep repeating it until they get bored and move on to a new target. Or just use internet baseball bats.
Ghost repliedfor me it's just i eventually get sick and tired of seeing something. like sometimes there's such a thing as TOO much, and some people jus tget sick of it. like for me with homestuck, i liked it and was pretty obssessed with it but eventually i got more and more tame, i was getting into other things and thats ok. i was still into it, sure, but th
Ghost repliedthen everything changed when i started seeing it EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVERY firetruckin' where, like some people would talk obut it nonstop and like vevery website id go to would be covered in it, just, idk. granted the fanbase for it is complete and utter shit so thst probably wasn't the best example.
Ghost repliedi also think that if something is receiving a lot of priase and being compared to a shitload of other stuff that's amazing, sometimes a eprsons expectations for it get exceedingly high. for me, thats frozen. nobody would shut th firetruck up about it and boasting about it nd to me, that was just overkill. because i had such high expectations for it, and with preceding dislike for it (due to people talking about it nonstop, got annoying) i ended up really disappointed,
Dracozombie repliedMaybe it's just the communities I hang out with are generally more... restrained. Or they're about something older or more obscure so more people being involved would actually be a GOOD thing (please play Phantasy Star Online with meee ;_
. I agree with the point about listening to a song nonstop that you get tired of it. I just don't understand disliking something simply because people won't shut up about it. Hate the fans, not the movie.Dracozombie repliedIt feels like hating something because it's everywhere, and hating it because it keeps getting shoved down your throat, are two separate issues. They go hand in hand, sure, but to me they're not one and the same. That's why it doesn't make sense to me to call something "overrated" just because a lot of people like it. EVERYTHING that's popular will have someone call it "overrated" because a lot of people like something they don't.
Dracozombie repliedI've fallen prey to the hype machine before, and I've learned my lesson about expectations. Still, even before I did, my response to a disappointment was "I was disappointed," not "that was overrated." They both pretty much mean the same thing, but they're framed differently. One focuses on your own personal experiences, and the other is a judgment of the movie itself. After all, for too many people it clearly WASN'T overrated. So who's right?
Dracozombie repliedSince they're so intertwined it's natural to assume they're the same. Still, I wouldn't want something I love considered undeserving of its popularity, so I try not to judge other works the same way. (Keyword there is TRY. Hate to say it, but occasionally, yes, even I can let a fanbase warp my judgement of the material. At least I usually catch myself when I do it...). Gogogo play PSO Ultima and we will level grind for great justice!
Javelin434 repliedOk, maybe I wasn't clear enough for the differences for 'overhyped' and 'overrated,' but since now that I'm on a computer, I can explain things more clearly. At the core, the difference between the two terms is time. "Overhyped" is when people are anticipating something, and are so hyped about it that no matter how awesomely done it is, the fans will never be satisfied because of their expectations being set too damn high. A great example would be the inevitabl...
Javelin434 repliedinevitable KH3 shitstorm. With the release of the trailers and seeing just a glimpse of it, fans will expect more and more based on a few observations. Overhyping makes for unreasonable expectations such as: "GAIZ AWESOME HD GRAPHIX AND SOOPER SEECRET SEX SCENES BETWEEN SORA AND RIKU AND SHIT AND AWESOME COMBAT." Once the game gets released, despite all the awesome stuff that it does such as resolving the plot, amazing character development, a happily ever after, etc. fans will be lef...
Javelin434 repliedwill be left disappointed because of their unreasonable expectation not being met. What would have been amazing if people weren't 'overhyping' it quickly becomes "OMG GAIZ IT SUXXX BALLZ THROUGH A STRAW DON'T WAIST YOUR MONEY KH IS RUINED AND IS SHIT." Echo this by a multitude of fans and it can kill a game, in that developers will no longer feel motivated to create another game.
Javelin434 replied"overrated" on the other hand, applies to something after it has materialized, and like I said before, is where people believe that something mundane has undue praise. By undue praise, it is highly subjective, and differs from person to person. If they want to throw AoT into this, then lets use that as an example. They might not like it for their own reasons, and they call it 'overrated' because of what they believe is mundane is getting more attention and love than they think...
Javelin434 repliedit deserves. That's my take on the difference between the two terms, and I'd say they're both mutually exclusive terms.
