Why is it that most games on the PS3 are more realistic on graphics or otherwise, and then Nintendo seems to be all about fantasy look and otherwise
WakingDawn96 repliedYeah, but most of them just feel like fantasy to me while I can feel more to a story on the PS3. I don't know. I do love Nintendo, but they could make a game that wasn't so fantasy like and more realistic and I mean like a new game not a game that goes into an ongoing series

In lieu of seeing Godzilla and our ship I gotta ask: why do we as an audience accept the impossible but not the improbable when it comes to storytelling? Like we have giant dinosaur creatures rising from the ocean and tearing through buildings, breathing blue fire or we have stories about shipping winners with zombie's and conjuring up proof but if someone guesses the combination to a safe on their first try? Dave repliedBecause the story will still set up rules for the context it creates, and it needs to stay within those rules in order for the story to not be broken. If the story presents a world where it is possible for a giant dinosaur appear, which then proceeds to do so, then so be it. If the story has made (or, really, preserved) the rules of safes being hard to open, coupled with probability and odds, then the act of someone opening a safe in one go still goes against the rules that the story establis...
Dracozombie repliedPretty much what Dave said, but to add to it, the impossible might be easier to accept because it gets a relatively freer pass--the "cannot happen in real life" versus "so contrived it's either a miracle or you're lying."
MyDixieRect repliedOK, so what if to crack open the safe there was a code that was written in Russian and, as it turns out, one of the main characters spent two years in Russia. There's nothing unlikely/low probability and odds of a person spending a couple years in Russia, most people can do it, but that still presents a problem and people aren't willing to accept it. Why?

If the character was established early on that he knows Russian, and it's reasonable for that safe to be written in Russian code, then it'd probably be acceptable. But if that information came out of nowhere (i.e. when he first sees the safe), then the audience would dismiss it as an asspull.
