Remove the like count but still allow posts to be liked - Discuss

Posted

After receiving a positive response from people on my idea awhile ago, I have decided to make a discussion for it.

How about we remove the like count but continue to allow people to like posts.

Removing the like count will remove any/all issues with the like system we've encountered in the past and any potential issues.

A lot of people think it's a good idea to spam likes to increase someone's like count, DChiuch brought it up recently if it's a problem "if a particular member has given 2000+ likes to another particular member." Removing the like count would obviously make this pointless (even though it seems pointless as it is.)

Removing the like count will remove all issues with the system, and in the process will in my opinion improve the usage of likes.

I couldn't care less if people remove it or not.

Likes don't define us.

I have to say no on this. i like the like count (no pun intended). I don't see why we would want that to be removed.

I don't really care all that much, but if you ask me it seems like the whole likes problem thing came out of nowhere.

I disagree.

I agree with the guy who disagrees.

It sounds alright, but I wish people didn't spam in the first place and let people get likes by saying something that actually deserves a like.

The likes itself sometimes deem worthless but it's nice knowing when someone likes your post, and also how many people liked your posts in total. Removing it isn't something I'd support easily. I just look at my likes and I'm kind of happy to see that many people tend to like my post.

Also about spamming likes, it really doesn't matter that much. It may stop, but really it's not a big deal if it goes on since no award is given if you have a lot of likes.

It doesn't matter either way to me . But it truly doesn't matter .It's just likes , who cares what people do with them ?

You mean the reputation? But I have such a nice rep xwx. I don't mind if it's removed but it's been a key feature on this site for like ever, something a lot of people have grown to like :P

I like this idea. Puts away a lot of drama for people.

If it's really a problem or if it starts to become one, remove it. But I don't really think it should be removed. Maybe there can be a limit as to how many times you can like ONE members posts per day? I want people to feel happy about receiving my likes as well as others' so it can show up on their profile. It shows really how involved you are in the community as well.

i like it i see no reason to remove it

Ehhh, I don't care much either way. We'll see what happens.

Honestly, I don't think it really matters either way.  I'd be fine with whichever DC decides to go with!

Honestly, this whole topic seems pointless. When DC brought it up last time, most people didn't have a problem with the like system the way it is now. So, why bring it up again?

I mentioned on the other topic that those members are earning their likes. It doesn't really matter if it's from the same member.

Reputation isn't that big of a deal. It's supposed to be something fun.

Or you could merely have it so that the only one who can see your own like count, is yourself. Still lets you keep count, while removes any issues. Likes aren't important, so I don't really see the big need to view everyone-elses.

well its a good idea Sora96, but yeah what i miss is the rep the when someone gave you a good rep and then gave a reason why they gave you that good rep!

I like the like system. Sometimes a simple like can tell if a person agrees with you or not. And it's good to know if your jokes are funny

But I don't think it's absolutely necessary. I'd like to keep it, but to me it's not really a big deal.

I'd like this but you are my friend. Wouldn't want people to get the wrong idea. ;)

To hell with them! I'm liking this post! And you're still my friend!

See?! This thread has a lot of posts that are liked...this might too...... But maybe you could make a new like system...somehow.
