Nomura discusses the possibility of a Star Wars world in Kingdom Hearts III

KHWaterBlock

In an interview between Tetsuya Nomura and Gamesbeat, Gamesbeat was able to have the chance to talk to Nomura at E3 and discuss the possibility of a Star Wars world in Kingdom Hearts III. At first, they were told they were not allowed to talk about the matter, but eventually Nomura did mention some things about the subject.

[About Star Wars]

Of course, Disney Interactive and Square Enix [are the] publisher. They’re combining their forces to bring Kingdom Hearts. So, the other associated companies under Disney [are] not something that is as simple as us consulting with Disney Interactive. So, unfortunately, the lineup is kind of considered as different.

The licensing isn't exactly the easiest, according to Nomura. What he means is that both Disney Interactive and Square Enix both have to contact their mother company Disney and Lucasfilm for permission to use any of the characters and locations. It isn't as simple as just requesting Disney for their first party licenses. It was also said that it could also be more expensive requesting these licenses as well. Even so, Disney Interactive may not even have the rights to use them.

Since the big deal between Disney and Lucasfilm back in 2012, many fans of the Kingdom Hearts franchise have been debating about seeing the Star Wars series in Kingdom Hearts III. Do you believe Star Wars would make a great addition to the Kingdom Hearts series? Let us know in the comments below!

Good to hear some kind of news about it, and it makes sense. I imagine that Marvel and Lucasfilm are both very protective of their characters, especially these days what with the multiple films coming out for both franchises.

Good. Keep this meme franchise away from Kingdom Hearts. It just wouldn't fit in the game. As far as I'm concerned, Star Wars isn't Disney.

Also keep in mind that Electronic Arts currently has an exclusive contract to produce games based on the Star Wars license. So it's unlikely that this will ever be possible.

Just wonder about the Pixar movies, then. Are those fairgame? Cause I kinda really want a Toy Story world.

John Lasseter is the Chief Creative Officer for both Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar as part of the Disney Pixar buyout. Woody and Buzz were going to be in Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, therefore, they may be the exception

I am so glad to hear about this. I don't want Marvel in Kingdom Hearts 3 either. Big Hero 6 is part of the Walt Disney Universe, therefore, that can be in Kingdom Hearts 3.

For starters, don't get personally offended and retaliate by saying "ignorant" to an opinion opposing your own. That will get you no friends.

And no, no it cannot. For everybody who uses the argument "Final Fantasy and Disney mixed to make Kingdom Hearts!", the thing was, The Final Fantasy characters are become less relevant to the plot as the series advanced. Originally, Kingdom Hearts intended to be a solo game, however, the popularity of it ultimately created it as the saga we see today. Just look at Dream Drop Distance, The World Ends With You characters ultimately replaced the Final Fantasy characters for cameos.

Now I do not hate Star Wars, far from it, I love it. However, Star Wars has its own complex lore. Making that minor to Kingdom Hearts is disrespectful to the Star Wars franchise, alongside that, making Kingdom Hearts too associated with Star Wars removes the original premise of the Kingdom Hearts series entirely. The same premise can be stated about the Marvel universe. Their lore and Kingdom Hearts lore clashing together would be an absolute eyesore and plot pain.

But for me personally, Final Fantasy and Disney have one link that Star Wars and Marvel fail to accomplish. Fairytales. Final Fantasy and Disney are fairytale franchises and that is why they seamlessly work well together. Star Wars is strictly Sci-Fi and Marvel is strictly Superhero. Having that mix with the Fairytale magic of Disney and Square Enix makes absolutely no sense at all whatsoever. They can't be a single world, because, they're separate "franchises".

actually  my argument is that star wars and KH have  something in  common and I am sure you know what that is

and  I am guessing you have  not played final fantasy through  7 all the way through   13 because  there is no such thing as fairy  tails

in those ones   FF has  very high tech steam punk like themes   and I am not as worried  about star  wars anymore nomura was very shocked before with  the square interview

As far as other worlds we can expect to see, Nomura says that the Disney worlds in Kingdom Hearts III

are mainly going to be newer areas that haven’t been experienced

before, and they just had a meeting with Disney to talk about their next

announcement. Nomura says that he was personally very surprised by it,

and they may be announcing another world very soon.

Okay, this is veery intriguing with Nomura sharing a very surprised reaction with the meeting with Disney. Wonder what this next world would be? Maybe it is  Star Wars? he did have his doubts about having the world now he is told you can use it  anyone would be surprised  by that and do not say its could be some thing like frozen we all know that gonna be there and even nomura knows that a no brainier

You're in denial. This is the publisher of the article. This link provides a list of all the articles that he has contributed to Gamesbeat.

You're jumping to conclusions there. He's just genuinely surprised of the buyout. But lets be honest, we were all angry and skeptical when Disney purchased Marvel and Lucasarts but look at the company now. That has no correlation with it being involved in Kingdom Hearts. Just because Tetsuya Nomura loves Star Wars doesn't mean that it will be in the game.

Yes, Final Fantasy 7 does use fairytales. Cat Sith and Red XIII are based upon mythical creatures (Fairy Tales) and don't get me started with the summons (A lot of them have Middle Eastern Fairytale influences). Sure, the plot is far from Fairytale Fantasy folklore but the Fantasy is still present.

Ya know ever since i was little I have always loved 3 things: Kingdom Hearts, Star Wars, and cartoons(yes anime is included in that), and I would love to see Sora fighting side by side with Obi-wan or using a keyblade glider to fly as Luke's wingman in his famous trench run in the fight to destroy the Death Star. Just thinking about it makes me giddy. All aboard the hype train!

Cat Sith is a robot and  those are very miner things to the grand theme of Final fantasy 7 which is pretty much steam punk  and not the buy out I mean  the fact of the matter is he was very surprised by    the meeting had  he  had with Disney on on E3 this year on   what  next world he wants to show  is proof   that  so  stop being in  denial  about its pretty much is  star  wars at this point wars in  there are a huge amount of people who want it in KH III  plus that site has post very little on KH what makes me  very skeptical it  plus the fact of the matter is  Mother Disney  has a good relationship with square  so just accept the fact it going to happen

I feel like they should stick to Disney animated movies like Tangled or Frozen instead of trying to incorporate live actions films like star wars or avengers

I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of Star Wars, but I won't deny that it might be pretty cool. I would look forward more to a Marvel world, but Star Wars wouldn't be too bad. It'd be pretty awesome to have a Lightsaber Keyblade. I really like the thought of that xD

I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I would absolutely love it if that Star Wars would make it as an addition to the Kingdom Hearts series. xD

I will be salty if Star Wars is in KHIII because it makes no sense in the context of the Xehanort Saga. It also isn't even a Disney movie, it's a Disney property. It's not fully-fledged Disney, in my opinion. KHIII should consist of only fully-fledged Disney movie worlds, as well as its own original worlds, i.e Radiant Garden, Twilight Town, etc.

What I WILL accept is a Death Star trench run with the gummi ship/keyblade glider. That would be f*cking awesome.
