One of the negative things about not having social media accounts that everyone else has: Not knowing that sign-ups closed for the yearly senior class game that you wanted to be a part of (and could only sign up via them) T-T

Well, if it's completely student-run then I KINDA understand... still, just out of principle I don't like the idea that being aware of these things hinges on signing up for some bullshit social media site they just EXPECT you to have.
Exilra repliedYeah its super fun! Everyone in it carries a sock around as their weapon and are assigned a target. They have to hit their target with their sock to get them out. But there is an immunity given everyday to make it harder. Like today was putting a fake mustache on. I remember some weird ones from previous years though like having to hold hands with someon of the same gender

Is that what things are coming to? If you're not eternally connected and sharing your lunch online, then it's grounds to miss out on an event right under your nose?
Dracozombie repliedI can't wrap my mind around how people constantly have low battery power just because they're using their damn phones so much. My normal non-smartphone can usually last around a WEEK before it needs a recharge. It's not even limited to schools. You can go just about anywhere and make a game out of counting how many people have their phones at the ready.
Exilra repliedI remember last year a girl in one of my classes HAD to have her phone on her desk or she'd go crazy. My phone mostly stays in my backpack and during lunch I bring a book to read. I remember telling my friends in my last class of the day that my phone had 90% and they looked at me like I was crazy. Our generation has become very attatched to our phones. Technology is just becoming such a big part in our lives with how quickly it is growing.
Dracozombie repliedI don't like sounding like those old fuddy fuddies who can't get with the times, but I really don't appreciate how attached we're becoming. People can legitimately get stressed not being around their phone, and that's just depressing. You're one of the few people I've heard of who reads an actual BOOK to pass the time instead of checking Facebook.
Exilra repliedYeah I'm not saying all this new technology is bad, but it shouldn't control our lives. I've even heard some people say that we are enslaved to our phones. And reading is a pastime I enjoy. I do need to get some new books though because I'm starting to read books I've already read
. English may not be my favorite subject, but it makes me cringe with how little literary knowledge some students in my class have. I remember one guy saying he's been reading this one book... -

Dracozombie repliedIt'd depend on the subject matter, but YES. The internet needs more positive critical analysis. Key word there is "positive." I think there's an unfortunate trend where critical analysis is basically just intelligently tearing something down. That's part of what I enjoy about your series: you intelligently assess why something is important.

Was just in a car accident...

Queen Tery repliedYeah I have full coverage. I'm pretty sure I just have a 500 dollar deductible. I was driving to school and was going down a highway. Little ways up the road a lady broke, cuz I guess further up was another wreck causing back traffic. I hit on my break and for whatever reason I didn't seem to be breaking very much. I tried checking to get in the other lane and there was a car to my side. So I ended up rear-ending her. Luckily she seemed okay for the most part, just shook up and possib...

Mystics Apprentice repliedOh dear, I'm so sorry to hear that this happened. Accidents really shake a person up, but it'll get better. I was in my first accident back in Feb,and while it was no where near as severe I can relate.

Queen Tery repliedYeah the 500 dollars isn't really a big deal. The car got towed, the front end is completely smashed in and wouldn't start. My insurance is going to pick the car up and cover the tow on Wednesday and then inspect it to see if it's worth fixing it as opposed to giving me a check to get a new car. So we'll see.

The car situation will get straightened out in time, and here's hoping that in a few weeks you'll be with an awesome vehicle that is just as good as--if not better--than the vehicle you were driving! Queen Tery repliedI have Statefarm. They seemed pretty helpful over the phone so far. Only thing that sucks is I guess I didn't have renter's insurance which I would think would normally be included in "full" coverage, but it is what it is.
Mystics Apprentice repliedRenter's insurance? Did you own the vehicle? That's strange, as I too thought that coverage alone through an insurance company would be as good as renter's, or at least that is what I read/have been told. I guess each company is different? I don't know, but I'm glad that you're getting it all taken care of. Good luck, and take care!
Mystics Apprentice repliedOh, oh! You said "rental"! Gosh, sorry, I overlooked that second message. That does kind of stink, especially since rentals can get up there in cost.
