    i understand that they are unfair, and believe me, i LOVE competition, but sometimes i just want to play a game with random fun. i agree that doing it on a fair stage and no items is AMAZING because you have the thrill (and all the awesome things) of competition. ( again, i LOVE competition) but somtimes i just want to have random fun and to just play a match with less tention like in a competative battle (i LOVE the tension in competition but sometimes i wanna take a break frm it and just fo...

    and just fool around and have fun) i consider smash WITH items fun for the same reasons as mario party (not completly but its the best comparison) and competative smash fun for the same reasons as pretty much all the awesome competition! xD in case you didnt notice, i prefer competition over random fun, but at times i still want it.

    I used to play with the items on, back in Smash 64,I used to consider them part of the game like items in Mario Kart,but the bob-omb and the exploding boxes and barrel always seemed to appear at the worst time and screw-up our matches,so we got sick of it and turned off all items ever since.I don't know why,but we always play Smash very seriously and when want to chill and have simple fun we play Mario kart of Mario Party,etc.

    i see. those are good games to play for that. :) but its just that smash can also be played like that with items on. but like you, i normally play smash very seriously. its just that i consider smash with items an option for when i want simple fun along with mario kart and mario party. but i guess its fine as it is because i usually play seriously. xD

    yes of course Smash can be play for fun.Sometimes me and my cousins invent our own cool mini-game and play just for fun.

    The way I see it, Smash is meant to be chaotic. Items lend to that, along with the crazy stages. Unfortunately, almost all of my friends in my Smash group hate items and stages that aren't flat. :/

    Items add variables that force you to adapt your play style, and thus actually make the player require more skill if he/she is to manouver around them. People who turn items off like to play on easy.

    @Dave:While there is some true to it,I've always disagreed with that statement.Items are random and thus they randomly change the tied of the battle,you don't need skills to grab a Ore club,a Heart Container or a Master Ball that randomly spawn right next to you.And the final smash are completely unbalanced,if Fox is fighting Jigglypuff,he has an advantage only because his Landmaster is much better then her balloon thing,but when items are off,you can only rely on yourself to win,you...

    ...won't kill time until a random heart piece appears to heal you or you won't pick Sonic or Falcon because they are faster to run across the stage and pick the items.

    You can turn off the items that make changes too drastic. For example, I like to leave healing items and things like the Hammer, Ore Club, and Gust Bellows off because I feel like they can get too cheap. I prefer to see items as more of a tool, and have my set up made so that it fits that.

    ok. i dunno why, but i feel that long RPGs are better on handhelds. i dont know why. i would think that it would be the opposite.

    its because on consoles you are limited to only playing it at on spot but on handhelds you can play whenever you want making the long rpg easier and faster to beat..... at least that's what I think
