I think that, just that system-wise, 3DS is by far. I do, however think that it is close if you take into account that a DS Lite could play GBA games. I loved the GBA and really think they should come out with a cheap little thing that lets you play GBA games on newer system because all I have to play them on is my Gamecube extension.

3DS handsdown, because as stated already you can play both DS and 3DS games on it.

Maybe look around for 3DS games you want? If you don't desire any maybe you can get a DS since they're SO cheap now.

3DS also has an e shop so Virtual Console aswell as the possibility of future games you would like?

Obviously 3DS. It has the data that it can play Playstation 2 games in great quality. Its really powerful for a portable console, and its great.

 

Besides you can play DS games on it too.

The only thing the DS does that the 3DS can't is play GBA games, and the only time that came into play for me was transferring from my Ruby/Leafgreen versions to Pearl. In every other way...except battery life I guess...the 3DS is a better handheld.

 

3DS wins, hands down.

3DS because its newer than the DS. It has interesting features like the AR (augmented reality) feature.

It's awesome You can play Playstation 1 and 2 games in there. Obviously Nintendo 3DS. A non-portable console is very great, specially from nintendo. Wii and Wii U are very expensive portables indeed.

Although in Nintendo 3DS, you can't play games from the other non-portable console Nintendo DS.

I'd have to say 3DS, but DS does have a few things better: First of all, GBA games. 3DS doesn't even have them on the eshop. The eshop would be so much better if it actually did... Also, DS has a better original library, in my opinion. Not talking backwards compatibility or anything here, but its own games. DS has my favorite game library of all time. Of course, 3DS hasn't been around for nearly as long, so we'll have to see. Not that 3DS will ever put out anything better than The World Ends With You anyway...

i haven't got a 3ds, but bigger screen, better hardware and software.

 

i dont think there is any competition especially considering the 3ds can back play ds and has the potential to hold emulators because of internal storage.

3DS without a doubt, even if I were to ignore the fact that it plays DS games. I've had my 3DS since launch, and I can say that I've enjoyed it just as much as, if not more than, my DS. And that is only in the space of about 2-3 years, as compared to the 7 I have had my DS. 

Since the 3DS has backward compatability with DS games

How the shit is this even a question. The 3DS is literally the same system that can play the same games, only it's BETTER.
