Today at SCEJA's 2015 press conference, Square Enix have officially announced Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue for the PlayStation 4, to release in 2016. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will lead into Kingdom Hearts III and contains:

 

- Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD

- Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Back Cover (movie)

- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage-

 

Dream Drop Distance HD is a HD remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D, which originally released in 2012. χ [chi] Back Cover is a HD movie based on Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ, and Birth by Sleep 0.2 is a new story based on the earlier concept of Birth by Sleep -Volume 2-, first teased in the Birth by Sleep Final Mix Secret Movie.

 

This announcement follows a leak earlier in the week about a mysterious game called Kingdom Hearts 2.9. It is unknown if they are one and the same or not.

Originally released in 2012, KINGDOM HEARTS [Dream Drop Distance] HD is a full-HD remastered version of KINGDOM HEARTS 3D [Dream Drop Distance]. Series protagonists Sora and Riku take on the Mark of Mastery exam in preparation for coming threats. The signature action of the KINGDOM HEARTS series has evolved, allowing players to experience faster-paced battles and exploration at a blistering pace.

This newly remastered title also features:

 

· KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage –

o A completely new playable episode that links to the story of KINGDOM HEARTS III, taking place after the storyline of KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep played from the perspective of Aqua.

 

· KINGDOM HEARTS χ [chi] Back Cover (movie)

o A new HD movie that tells the mysterious story of the Foretellers, connecting the earliest parts of the series’ history, showcased in the upcoming mobile title KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ[chi].

I literally can't even believe it. Like, DDD HD? Yeah. X something or other? Sure, sweeten the pot. BBS .02 with what looks to be the KH3 engine? Shut your mouth how is this a thing.

I can't wait, though this likely means KH III in 2017.

It will have KH: DDD HD, Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage-. Wow, Volume 2, who would have expected that...It was said it will come to Playstation 4 but no mention of Playstation 3 or other consoles.

It probably has the same story but is likely just a short 1-2 hour game.

That's what I was thinking. Now if it was 2.75 or something like that then I would say we were trolled. Hmm, could the .8 hint at the distance in time between at least two of the games and III?

We officially have our KH game for 2016. This all but confirms a 2017 release for KH3; there was no way KH3 was gonna release alongside FFXV in the same year. Gonna Pre-Order this when a release date is given

No way SE was gonna release KH3 in the same year as FFXV. Its not a good move business-wise. Anyways im glad this is happening; many of us never got a chance to play DDD and now that most of us have PS4's we can enjoy it for the first time in HD; 3DS controls are probably simulated with the touchpad. 2.8 probably also has a secret leading up to KH3 if i was a betting man i'd say it has a KH3 demo

After all these years of believing that Volume 2 would only happen in my wildest dreams, it is finally here, and to see my favorite character (Aqua) in those beautiful new graphics is a cherry on top of it all.  Very excited about this collection as it seems to be very lore driven which I love!

Anyways, you're probably right about it being out by 2017. Now I hope that this is the final game before KH III. I can't see what else they can do to buy time and keep the one yearly game trend going, well except for releasing a collection of I.5 and II.5 for PS 4.
