Im listening to the 3D OST, havent played the game yet, but ive noticed all of Yokos shit, sounds EXACTLY THE SAME, or it has a sample of a song shes done before. Like, that gets old, man.

 

Majestic Wings, Ice-Hot lobster are two of my faves. Ive noticed theyre composed by Tsuyoshi Sekito, and that guy is crazy with it. I love how theyre unique and full of energy, im tired of hearing Dearly Beloved tidbits in Yokos stuff, it gets boring.

 

I think we need a new composer, anyone else?

i think 3D`s soundtrack was great... but all of the songs didnt fit good to the situation.

I personally think that part of what gives Kingdom Hearts its identity is the soundtrack, and what gives the soundtrack its identity is Shimomura's unique style. I personally hold her work on KH in extremely high regard. I personally hope that she continues to be a large part of the KH series. That being said, if anyone were to take control of the KH soundtrack, I would want it to be Takeharu Ishimoto (who wrote the Vanitas battles in BBS, which are still some of my favourite KH songs of all time). However, I want Yoko to continue being a part of KH.

 

That's my opinion, though. I respect your's.

Not saying its not good, but her stuffs kinda predictable now. This new guy is awesome, like "Fate of the Unknown", the song used for the KH2:FM secret ending, that was composed by Kaoru Wada, its great right? I mean, Destati is impeccable, no denying, just thinking she may have lost it. Give her a break or something.

Not at all, Yoko is a genius is my opinion. While I agree some pieces sound the same, I think it works. Shimomura's music is good at building tension, sadness and just pure adrenaline.

Id never want her to leave, this is her game music-wise, just not have so many songs i guess, they dont seem so special anymore, though the KH soundtrack is what got me into classical, so i guess i have her to thank for it.

Yoko is amazing! Her music is unique.

 

It's hard to make songs that don't make the player tired of listening to 'em----!

I think we should look forward to the future for more original music from Yoko; part of the rehashing of some of the music stems from the fact that the plot itself uses the same characters and connects to the past so much. I'm sure there will always be a certain style pertaining to Kingdom Hearts though. I personally have no complaints about any soundtrack so far, but I guess I can understand wanting a change. Perhaps more variety and letting other composers get more of the other themes might be nice.

I just love this new guy so much, ever since the trailers ive noticed this game has a diff sound because of him, it brings something new to the table.

I like it how it is honestly. Yes there are a lot of similarities, but all composers are like that. Listen to every movie Hans Zimmer has composed for; they all have similar structure and chord progressions. Sometimes even the exact same ones. But all of his music has a different flavor to it depending on the movie. Pirates of the Caribbean and Batman both have some very similar themes yet there is still something that makes it stand apart from one movie to the next. It is the same with Shimomura's compositions for KH. Each game may have a lot of similarities but that is expected seeing that they are all part of the same series, the same way Pirates all have the same theme and batman has a very similar theme.

 

Now if I had to pick someone else for the games, it would be Daft Punk. After what they did for TRON Legacy... they should compose more for games and movies. Any techno/electronic group that can compose for a full orchestra and still keep their feel deserves heaps of credit. I think a full Daft Punk soundtrack for a KH game would be one of the greatest things to ever happen. It probably never will, but it would be awesome.

honestly, i thought the new songs by the other people were terrible and didn't sound kingdom heartsy at all.

The soundtrack suffered due to the horrible songs by the other composers , usually she does almost all of the soundtrack , this time they made the other composers do most of the boss themes and stuff , so thats why this soundtrack is probably the worst one so far

Considering how many connections and ties the characters and themes have its not suprising that some of the songs have tidbits of others in it. Some of the greatest composition in history repeat the same thing in different way in the same song it doesn't devalue the quality of the piece.

But what's wrong with using pieces of previous songs and sneaking it into new ones? I love that about her work! For me, it really adds to that sense of connection the game's story already has going on; hearing songs from the first KH in DDD...even though I didn't play KH until some time in '08, I still felt nostalgic about it. Same goes whenever a piece from BbS or KH II would pop up. I'm all for her coming up with more original songs, but her little remixes are just as amazing to listen to. oωo

I don't get what you're trying to tell me. Yoko's music is fantastic in KH3D, can't say the same for Sekito's though.

Yoko's work is amazing and she has such an unique style. Also. KH3D has so many original soundtracks, I have no idea where you got the idea "she sampled it". All of the disney world music are new (except Monstro for Riku and Fantasia because its from the movie itself)? Also the fact that the boss battle music sound the same is on purpose since

Really its one of the most original OST in the franchise.

Yeah me too, Takeharu will probably my first choice to take over the future soundtracks (or atleast work with Yoko more often). Vanitas's battles ;v;

I don't think I'd ever get tired of Yoko Shimomura's music, I know she puts little samples from her past songs into her new ones but they still sound as original and unique. Take dearly beloved, how many versions of that do we have now like atleast 7 or 8? but each time she manages to make the piece sound as beautiful as it was the last time, despite it being different at the same time.

 

Idk about anyone else but for me Yoko Shimomura outdoes herself every time.

She hasn't added enough new songs that really stick out. It seems she only does a full OST overload for a numbered title. The one game that hasn't been numbered yet got nearly an entirly new OST is BBS. The others all recycle mostly, and 3D was guilty of that too besides the world themes and boss themes.

I agree, Hans Zimmer is still amazing even if some stuff sounds similar in theme. Its their signature style, like Yoko. Its what makes good musicians recognisable, like how you can listen to something and be like "this is John Williams isnt it?" She is fantastic and I doubt I would ever get tired of listening to her stuff. And Daft Punk would be an awesome addition to any video game/movie! Too bad they couldnt have gotten some original stuff from them for The Grid in DDD.
