What?

Last bits of World That Never Was. Xehanort calls Sora "that dull, ordinary boy."

Can we say that he 'was' ordinary?

He doesn't give a shit what his hair looks like.

Xehanort's just jealous.

Nomura has also described him as being an 'ordinary boy' in at least one of his interviews:

Nomura : I thought a lot about whether Sora was to become Keyblade Master or not. But because I always wanted Sora to relate to the players, if he became Master, it would have meant he would have really reached a very high level and it is not yet ready for it, and we do not want that to happen. The decision to not make Sora a Keyblade Master was not really difficult, but I thought it was better that he remains an ordinary boy to be closer to the players.

Nomura has always described Sora as an ordinary boy. The whole idea behind Sora is that he equivilates the player with the notion that even the most ordinary people are capable of accomplishing extraordinary things.

Well Xehanort calls Sora ordinary cuz Sora wasnt supposed to have the Keyblade. Which in my opinion should make him special since the Keyblade chose him. However, since the Keyblade "moved down the list" it would seem that Sora's obtaining the Keyblade was a coincidence.

Makes more sense now. Thank you everyone. :)

 Exactly

 Yep

Nomura has always said it was destiny. That he was always meant to have it . Aqua almost gave him the ceremony herself but didn't bc she saw Riku had it . Yet he still ends up wielding . Coincidence i think not .

n Aqua's chapter, on the Destiny Islands, was Aqua originally intending to perform the Keyblade rite for Sora or Riku?

Nomura: Yes. When Aqua met Sora and Riku, she was on the point of realising that she may end up having to fight Terra. At that point she was going to perform the rite of succession for Sora, but realised that Terra had already performed the rite for Riku. Not wanting sora and Riku to end up fighting like she and Terra in the future, she didn't perform the rite for Sora. This is the meaning behind her murmurs that "One must not get too close to a chosen one," and "I must not make them walk the same path." When she tells Sora he must save Riku if he ends up walking the wrong path, she's projecting her own thoughts onto Sora.

Given he does end up wielding despite that just proves even more it was meant to be

So its not Once Soras story is finished, another heros story will begin, the hero is always Sora.

Nomura: Yes. One of the concepts behind the KH series is that the main character Sora isnt special, hes just a normal boy. Yes he does have connections with Ventus heart, among others, but he hasnt inherited anything from them.  Hes just a normal boy you could find anywhere. I wanted to make Sora a character that the player could take onto themselves and feel that you dont have to be special. But connect to many people and you will realize your secret potential. With BbS I want to make fans excited to see Soras return. The secret event is a symbol of that, so I hope everyone will get to see it and wait for Soras next adventure.

-Even though Riku was the rightful owner of the Keyblade, then why did Sora obtain the Keyblade in the beginning?

Nomura: Even though I would like to keep that obscure, there is a scene in Destiny islands where Riku is being swallowed by darkness, a light appears, and Sora first obtains the keyblade. With the setting I created, the darkness that surrounds them is Riku’s heart’s darkness. At that moment, Sora enters the darkness, and the light he sees inside is Riku’s heart’s light. Sora, who was squirming in the darkness to save Riku, touched the light and temporarily obtained the Keyblade from Riku.

---Does not the Keyblade itself choose its owner?

NomuraThe Keyblade reacts to the rightful owner’s heart and appears to them. Even though it was definitely Riku who called the Keyblade towards him, the reason why Sora was able to weild it was because he also had the right qualities too.

Doesn't seem like a coincidence to me .He's always met the qualifications and eventually bc of that he does get chosen even without a ceremony

i know that. i said it seemed like a coincidence. i didnt say that it was a coincidence. I was explaining why Xehanort would say he was an ordinary boy.

As long as you know then  ;)

I may be missing something because I don't consider Sora ordinary.  He's ordinary in the sense he doesn't have big-time aspirations like being royalty, a part of some secret organization or a knighthood of world saviors.  It's just the way he carries himself that strikes me as extraordinary.  He's too capable.  He handles himself too well.  He knows what he needs to, and he totally does it, because he has the strength and the conviction to carry it out.  He may have an ordinary lifestyle, at least initially, but he's a hero through and through.  That is anything but ordinary.

Define " ordinary" : In Sora's universe, he's probably that dull kid in the back of the classroom no one really talks too.

Riku and Kairi are probably his only friends: a small trio of loners with an impossible dream of escaping their dreary lives, before the Darkness tossed everything they knew away.

Yeah, ordinary...

But ordinary can do great things in the end.

Considering how outgoing he is and accepting of new people, I would say he might have had quite a few destiny island friends before he went on his adventure.

Well selphie, wakka, and tidus were also friends, and aside from the actual islands he probably has a few friends in the actual part of destiny islands that had civilization.

Part of me wants to think of it as another sign that Xehanort really doesn't understand things as well as he likes to believe he does. He's been one-upped by Sora, who is not the most cunning, the most strong, or the most impressive at first glance. But that's because Xehanort is doomed to look at things on the surface only. He doesn't get that the reason Sora is able to keep beating him is because he has a strength of will, perseverance, and the ability to love and find love that has helped him along the way time and time again. It's kind of like when GlaDos gets frustrated about the concept of Chell fighting back when she's not even a scientist (or a full time employee!): its the idea that they're being beaten by someone who they deem "beneath" them, but at the same time don't really understand why the hero keeps winning.
