What don't you like in the KH series?

Posted

What the title says, it can be a character, a certain part of the plot like time travel or the way a theme is handled. A certain game in the series, a gameplay mechanic. It can be anything.

For me: Lack of depth for Lexaeus, Xaldin, Luxord and Demyx. Each of these guys have about 4-5 lines each in the series.

The fact that in Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix in 2.5, the limits' names were changed from their original like Ragnarok changing to Infinity.

I know that this might not have been something you expected and you were expecting more than this, but I love the Kingdom Hearts series and it's really hard for me to find something I dislike within the series. Maybe it's because I love it so much that I deny finding something to hate/dislike. So pretty much what I'm saying is it's most likely because I'm a fanboy. At least I'm no COD fanboy.

Just in advance, future comments will most likely have: COM's gameplay, re:coded, Roxas' ice cream line, Atlantica, KH2 Roxas section and the complexity of the series.

In my case, I love all of these I mentioned. ALL of them.

Things that I don't like...

- The battle system in COM

- Enemies that have an invincible period(shoegazer unversed)

- The amount of game systems I had to buy to play each installment

- KH1's clunkyness while flying or swimming

- Xion's voiceactress that keeps changing

- The assbackwards way abilities work in BBS and 3D

- How dumb they made Sora in KH3D.

- KH2's Atlantica's lack of depth(no pun intended)

- The lack of effort the HD ReMixes got.(No english lipsync for the cutscene movies, glitchyness, slowdown with big 2D artifacts on screen, loadtimes, drive and commandstyles)

Jeez... why do I even like these games... xD

Donald ******** Duck.

Wonderland.

Olympus Colosseum.

Lack of character development of various Organization XIII members in 358/2 Days.

Lack of original characters is another one for me. There's a Master Xehanort, a young Xehanort, a Xehanort when he merged with Terra, a Xehanort when he merged with Terra and lost his memories, a heartless of Terranort and a nobody of Terranort.

A guy who looks like Sora, a guy who looks like Roxas, a girl who looks like Kairi. I swear SE just do this so they don't have to come up with original character designs. Nearly half the cast look like each other.

I certainly agree with the last one, all we got was Xion who's existence was shock value and contributed little since everyone forgot about her.

-Yaoi fanart

-Hell, any fanart of the characters that has little to do with the game. I don't know, it just really annoys me, especially when it's too cutsey and involves shipping.

-Every time they repeat "Sora, Donald, Goofy," whether to introduce themselves or otherwise

-The paper face, if you know what I mean. Glad that's going away.

-Atlantica

-Summons being near useless

-Everything about abilities in DDD. Especially the fact that I can't keep some of them unless I have the dream eater it's attached to in my party.

-That gummi ship trophy

-Every trophy that required me to grind in COM.

-The fact that I don't have KH3.

The fact that Tangled is going to be in Kingdom Hearts III.

I'm glad the Xehenort Saga is coming to an end, because I'm tired of every single bad guy/thing being him.

Summons can actually be incredibly useful, especially if you watch someone do a speedrun of one of the games.

Hence "nearly," useless. Even then, though, there's hardly a need to use em, so that was kinda my point.

I don't like that the plot is way more complicated than it needs to be.

Also I hate the way some things work in the Kingdom Hearts universe like time travel and fate.

  • The Card Battle System
  • Lack of original characters
  • Lack of characters with more interesting personalities
  • Atlantica
  • The Command Board
  • The Gummi Ship controls and battles in KH1
  • KH 2.5 glitches

There are more but I can't think of anything right now.

Well, since we're doing this...

Atlantica in KH2 and the fighting/swimming system in that world

Flying system in Neverland

The lack of life in the characters face ( and it doesn't seem that's going to change: I mean look at the new Sora and Goofy when they get into the Tangle world)

The 'new' Sora

Lack of population and living beings (birds, fishes, etc.. ) in the worlds

How keyblades disappear when the game change ( all but oblivion and oathkeeper)

Time travel

How the story is inconsistent and how they loose track of it

Alice being a Princess of Heart (really???)

How Kairi is unimportant to the story, basically...

How Riku is suddenly more important than Sora

More will come...

Vanitas.

Xehanort.

The entire concept of the X-blade.

Time travel.

The fact that Riku's giving in to Darkness and trying to abet in the destruction of the world really has done nothing but pay dividends, giving him super powers and apparently making him "immune" to Darkness, while Sora is being punished for having a strong will and not giving in to corruptive impulses.

The fact that the series continued on after KH2 ended. Now the story is trying to make itself out to be some grand and epic tale but it just feels forced and not like the first three KH games at all. The story in KH, CoM, and KH2 felt more connected than the story we have now, what with other characters being forcibly latched on to Sora and co. for the sake of relevance and the continuation of a story that ended back in 2005.

Xion and Kairi. Sorry, but I really dislike Xion, since I think she doesn't serve any purpose in the story, Days was really a waste of potencial. And Kairi because even though she should be important, she doesn't do anything! I hope KH3 makes me change my view on her...

I like the complicated story and even though time travels are usually not that good, I think they did it well enough. But for the plot I wish it had more scenes with the secondary characters, kinda like KH3D did (when you finish a world, you get a cutscene from other characters) because the story has a lot of potencial and cool characters but we only see the main ones and I wish to know more about the others, that's why there are a lot of secrets and things we don't know, I wish we had more info on the other characters.

And another thing would be... lack of news of KH3 xDD Sorry, I'm really impatient xD

Nothing tbh.

Chain of Memories card card battle gameplay.

Birth By Sleep. All of it.

-Terra

-Ventus

-Aqua

-The fact Days didn't get a remake, even though it has some of the best writing

-Sora after KH2 (and sometimes in KH2)

-Lack of exploration after KH1

-Richard Epcar

-Re-coded
