So the electors vote today and it seems that only one will be faithless. And yet a small group of people has been sending these electors hundreds of thousands of emails and calls to not vote for Trump. What a waste of time.

KingdomHearts3 repliedThe reason why I say it is because historically, electors defecting is rare and has never happened. Besides, there are laws prohibiting faithlessness so it is a waste of time. Even with states that don't have the laws, electors don't change their vote anyway. Why can't these people accept the result that they so preached before the election? If it were the other way around, they would be preaching the election needs to be accepted as it is.
HarLea Quinn repliedThe Electoral System is in place to protect state rights because we are a republic and it ensures every demographic is properly represented. It's called civics class. So a mob mentality cannot overtake the country. It ensures all citiens from all overs voice is counted and not just 2-3 highly populated ones.

Otherwise we might as well tell the rest of the citizens from other states they don't matter and their needs don't matter. Why would the states have entered into the constitutional republic if they would not have a voice or rights over anything? They wouldn't. We still have states rights.

That is why the Founding Fathers instituted an Electoral College, not the popular vote as the basis for picking a President. They did not want a mob mentality. KingdomHearts3 replied@Vulpix Some of those are swing states. The big chunk of the population is in CA and NY. You could win the popular vote with those states. If you win all the rest of the states that go blue or red typically, you win.
Okay, not to be rude, but this is why I lock my statuses when it comes to this stuff. I merely let my guard for a second and already this has gotten out of hand. All I do is put out an opinion on these and sometimes things in life. I will leave with Lea giving the last word...
HarLea Quinn repliedVulpix the scenario you are describing is Clinton's scenario lmao. She won much much fewer states than Trump- just with high electoral votes. She didn't win. So you don't really have a point. In order for Trump to win he needed major swing states whose votes change every election to vote for him. Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan. It's super hard to do but he did it. He even won states that normally voted blue. That's how he won and it was a long shot.
HarLea Quinn repliedI think only 5 elections were won just purely by winning just the electoral college and not the popular. It does not happen very often and none of those elections were overturned later by the popular vote. Sorry Clinton lost and it is what it is.
