Any suggestions on an anime I should watch? The only ones I really watched are SAO and The Avatar: Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. I personally can't get into Attack on titian but I'll give it another go soon enough.

silent silv repliedFMA: It follows Edward and Alphone Elric, brothers who are Alchemists--basically meaning they are scientists with the ability to manipulate a certain element. Early on in their lives, they committed a taboo that resulted in Edward wearing a fullmetal arm and leg (Hence the name), and Alphonse becoming stuck in a suit of armor. It goes on for their search for the Philosopher's Stone--an item they hope will let them return to normal.

I finished watching Kanon yesterday, and I have to say, it was an amazing anime, and so emotionally heart-wrenching! It was also very funny and silly at times! Today I started watching Air, an anime made by Key, the same studio that made Clannad and Kanon! God, I love this studio!

What's your opinion on AU fics? I've noticed the brunt of my KH plot bunnies (and in other fandoms as well) have been AUs of some sort, because I feel either a lot of canon elements have been unexplored or mishandled, or I'm just more curious to see how established canons fare in other contexts.
Dave repliedI think AU's can be interesting, especially if it's looking at something that could have happened if one of the character's choices had been different in one moment, or something that tries to see how the characters would have handled a different fallout to a situation, as more of a character study. Like Superman: Red Son.
Dave repliedBecause that way, it's not like the author is just making things up: they're following the elements of the story that already exist, and then are tinkering a few things here and there that cause the plot to go in a different direction while still making sense within the story's original context.
Dracozombie repliedAgreed, but some of my AU ideas are a little more esoteric than that. Say, I try making Roxas act more or less as he does in canon despite not being a Nobody. One idea involving him is a mystery where he's the new kid at Destiny Islands and people are disappearing/being kidnapped due to legends about Xehanort and the old keyblade wielders living there.
Dave repliedAh, I see. I still think it works. The more I think on it, the more I think AU boils down to character and whether they are at least very close to what they are originally, since every problem I can think of off the top of my head that I've had with AU in the past seems to be when the characters are made to be extremely OOC. But yeah, I think different settings and plot lines would be cool too.
Dracozombie repliedNot just characters, but also at least one core theme or element. It's starting to bore me how many high school AUs take literally EVERYTHING remotely interesting about the original setting except for the characters, who may or may not act in-character. The concept itself doesn't bother me at all, but after reading a gazillion I've realized most of them boil down to the same things (usually shipping).

Holy crap, I forgot how insanely good the storytelling/foreshadowing in Xenoblade Chronicles are. Guess that's what happens when you're stuck on a battle for a few months, but dang. I love the game even more now.

silent silv repliedI like it when the Main protag is initially unlikable, but gets more likable as things go on.
Shulk repliedIf I hate the main protagonist of something, I quit with whatever that is. Not gonna put up with something when the person the story focuses on pisses me off.
I also personally prefer to not say that the main protagonist is my FAVORITE (Doesn't mean they can't be one of my favorites), but I do have a few exceptions.
