Yasue talks HD 2.5 ReMIX dev, possibilities of other platforms / 3D HD / future titles, KH3 world selection & more

DChiuch

RPG Site have conducted an interview with the co-director of the Kingdom Hearts series, Tai Yasue, to discuss Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX following its appearance at E3 2014. Here, Yasue talks about the development of the game, hints at possibilities for inclusions in Kingdom Hearts III and more. You can read the full interview at RPG Site, or check out our summary below.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX

- Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] was not included in this collection, since the game released very recently (within the last 2 years), and thus only Birth by Sleep and Re:coded were considered for inclusion. There are no plans for a HD release of Kingdom Hearts 3D and they haven't decided anything, but it is on the table-- and might "perhaps" be considered later for "something like" a downloadable title.

- The Re:coded cutscenes are 3 hours long, with 2 hours being "totally new". This will explain some more back story to other Kingdom Hearts titles.

- Many things were considered for inclusion in the HD collection, but ended up being decided against so as to not delay Kingdom Hearts III even further (since the same team is making KH3 & KH2.5). These things were-- making Re:coded into a full game, multiplayer in Mirage Arena (which is now single player, with a challenge system where you can accrue bonuses, better balance, and updated boss AI), and lastly, capes in Birth by Sleep (which would have required costly and difficult animations). To be clear, all of this was decided against in order to focus more on Kingdom Hearts III.

- 70-80 people worked on HD 2.5 ReMIX, including around 35 people working on cutscenes, 5 programmers, and an unknown amount of designers, sound staff and more.

- There's a possibility that the HD collections will be considered for the PlayStation Vita, but the initial focus was concentrating on the PlayStation 3-- later, they will look at considerations for other platforms and evaluate the markets and schedules.

- Regarding a collector's edition for HD 2.5 ReMIX in the West, they are looking into what they can do, but nothing has been finalized yet.

Kingdom Hearts III

- When asked about the possibility of Star Wars and Marvel based worlds, Yasue said "Star Wars and Marvel is great, but I of course can't make any announcements at all!"

- Later, Yasue brought up the movie Frozen after being asked about the world selection process-- "On a personal level... I would really like Frozen. The snow, ice formations and story are very magical, the music too of course. I saw it with my daughter and it was very enjoyable."

- There is "always the possibility" of releasing another Kingdom Hearts title before Kingdom Hearts III. They are "taking into consideration a lot of different titles", but nothing has been decided on yet.

What? Why? I seriously hope they think this through... Because this can cause slow development for Kingdom Hearts III.

I guess to try to hold us off until KH3. Ya never know what might come out of this.

It would be nice to have X [Chi] in other countries, but I don't think it would be possible...

Argh.. He always answers with "we're considering" to about everything... :(  Also I think in one way or another they should really give us HD version of KH3D. It's an important title in story after all.

Hmm interesting. Cool they considered capes, multiplayer. Re-Coded I'm fine with being cutscenes honestly. Just glad this means KH3 will be out sooner. Hopefully significantly sooner.Hope they do another collectors edition similar to 1.5 too, thought it was a very nice collectors edition.Very very very excited to hear about Vita possibility. Though knowing SE...probably no cross buy... Though I still can't see them doing it, despite how awesome it'd be. The sad thing is, I think they'd put mobile ahead of Vita if it was possible.

I would have been fine with the idea of delaying KH3 to make KH2.5 as polished as possible. I hope they are not rushing the development of KH3 because of the fans

I can live with Frozen, i would love to see it in a later installment but i can deal with that in Kingdom Hearts 3 because of the hype the movie has (i think it is A BIT overrated but just a bit) I'll take this with a grain of salt. But NO MARVEL AND STAR WARS, please  :, Also i don't want other KH titles before KH 3 that are not out until now which means i would accept a 3D Port/HD Remaster or whatever it will be and a localisation of Chi. the new Content of Re:Coded is 2 HOURS  :O !?! Woah i want to see this movie  <3

I'm not sure if I would enjoy a remaster of KH3D (I love that game and it is really important), because if would be remaster, would it mean to take away touch screen features, such reality shift and the mini-games to train your spirits? (I really enjoyed these features)And also there is now quite an extended library of very good games in N3DS, there is still more coming this year, it wouldn't be a waste buy the handheld.I am also with the others, not releasing another KH title before KH3, we already have enough, the localization of Chi

I don't want any new games before KHIII... If we do, I'm hoping they'll stick to PS3. No more handhelds for a while, please. I finally settled down console-wise, and really don't want to have to buy something like a Vita.

If they remade it on Wii U, they could transfer the touch screen features to the Gamepad. That's the only way I can see it work, honestly.

Where is Sora96.

We need to talk.

loljk, but that'd be pretty cool if they decided on a downloadable KH3D game.

You know, I actually found this article 7 minutes after it was published. I probably should have posted it when I found it, but I figured someone else will find it.

It's like they didn't made KH 358/2 days and RE:CODED playable as to not delay KH3, but yet they considering making another KH game before the third one witch would definetly delay KH3 even more...

I will say, it is confusing. Why not add in cool stuff in the HD collections to not delay the game, then make new games which would delay the game? Maybe once FFXV comes out, the KH team will be back and working on KH3 along with the Osaka team (who could then also work on a new game)?

I guess that could work well that way then and it would be one more reason buy a Wii U, I intend to buy both PS4 and WiiU later in the future.

Basically it confirms 2015 release of HD complete (with 1.5 & 2.5) for Vita and PS4. DDD will be a downloadable 3D HD port on PSN for PS4 and Vita.

Touch screen controls will be remade for touch pad on DS4 and on Vita will utilize touch screen/touch pad

Make it happen.
