Haley Joel Osment comments on Kingdom Hearts III

Zap2it recently interviewed Haley Joel Osment, the English voice actor for Sora and he briefly commented on Kingdom Hearts III. He confirms that he spoke with Square Enix following the announcement at E3 2013 and that he hopes to voice Sora in Kingdom Hearts III. You can watch the video and read the transcript below, thanks to opinion from KH13 for the tip.

Zap2it: "Now, one last question. I'm going to nerd out a little on you, but you've been involved in the Kingdom Hearts franchise for a really long time, and people are excited about 'Kingdom Hearts III' finally coming out. Can you talk a little bit about that? Have you seen the script or anything?"

HJO: "I saw the announcement and then talked with them a little on the phone. I started doing ‘Kingdom Hearts’ in 2001, and we’ve done the main series and then the Game Boy one. I feel like I’ve done seven or eight installments, which is awesome but with this, they’re making it now and the recording of the dialogue is one of the last parts of the process. Probably this summer or later."

Zap2it: "But we'll have you back for Sora?"

HJO: "That’s what I hear. Sometimes Sora goes back to being a child or goes to another universe or changes into somebody else so I can never say for sure, but hopefully I’ll be back."

Oh wow, AND THERE'S AN OFFICIAL VIDEO TOO. So, maybe recording lines this summer, does this mean that they're going fast in production now?

I remember there was an interview with Nomura where he said it's been in development for a few years now (It was a really long time ago so I doubt I can find it again, but I remember reading that here on KH13). I guess it's possible that they've gotten things to a good point by now. Also, if they're doing English voices this early... Can I hope for an international release?

It sounds more like an assumption to me. He does say summer OR LATER is when he is guessing it will start. I think it would be awesome if they started that early. But Nomura said like 2 weeks ago that he was still writing the scenarios. If he is still writing what happens, they can't have any scenes done yet. If they don't have any scenes done yet, he can't record. It takes awhile for all this stuff. Plus FF 15 is still coming out first so until it comes out, no KH3.

Interesting. (hate it when celebrities of the main characters know little juicy details), seeing that he will possibly be recording Sora's lines sometime in the summer or later would mean that Nomura would be done with the story stage by then. They will record the characters lines while working on the game itself at the same time. I smell a worldwide release. I predict late 2015 will be the release.

I know it's Haley Joel Osment and all, but I still think recording dialogue this summer is pretty wishful thinking :/

Good to see that he's still looking to be Sora though!

Also, poor guy. Puberty was not kind to him, looks-wise.

I thought he was really into it. When she mentioned kingdom hearts his opened his eyes wide and looked like he wanted to talk about it to me.

Oh, never mind you're right. My stupid laptop wouldn't load the video the first time so I didn't see his expressions, just read the text.

Well,Nomura did say he wants KH 3 out fast so it's fair to say that the game will be done development by the start of 2015 after that it's just a matter of time....Can't wait to see what they'll show at this years' E3:)

My lord, his voice got even deeper.

And so, the bright gleam in his eyes when Kingdom Hearts was mentioned all but indicates that Haley is enthusiastic about being Sora again.  He has to be Sora, because no one can do Sora like he can! :D

I agree, Nomura's said that the game still has alot to go through and if recording is the last thing, its going to be awhile

Personally I think Haley Joel Osment knows about as much as we do right now

I didn't feel like he had much PASSION (joke intended) in KH 3D but that was just me. However, it may just be Sora's younger appearance that doesn't match up with the voice. If they mature him enough in 3, then his deeper voice will fit perfectly with Sora's mature self.

"goes into another universe."I feel so bad for him, not knowing the true awesomeness he is involved in >.<

ikr? well Sora does go into another realm so maybe thats what he was referencing cuz he went back to being 14 so like pre-voice change in DDD so i think he's just saying that cuz he had to make his voice higher for younger Sora lol

Edit: nvm he was saying you can't say for sure if Sora is the same....

I think he's speculating when he'll start doing voice acting.

“The Spoils of Babylon” isn’t the only big project Osment has coming up. He also is slated to voice the main character of Sora in the long-anticipated video game ”Kingdom Hearts 3.”The project was announced on June 10, 2013 at E3, and Osment says he hasn’t gone into the studio for it yet.

“I saw the announcement and then talked with them a little on the phone. I started doing ‘Kingdom Hearts’ in 2001, and we’ve done the main series and then the Game Boy one.
